KCCA Football Club has picked just one win in the last seven Uganda Premier League outings.
The run, which includes the barren draw with Police Football Club on Thursday at Kavumba, has seen the Kasasiro fall four points behind leaders Vipers and three short of second-placed NEC, who have a game in hand.
Derrick Nsibambi, Saidi Mayanja and Sharif Ssengendo had chances to score for KCCA but were denied y some good golkeeping from Edward Kasibante.
Head coach Abdallah Mubiru couldnt hide his dissappointment at not picking maximum points
“We expected maximum points but there are some elements that are still missing in our game. That spirit of dying a little for the club, that love for the club to win [lacks],” Mubiru said in the aftermath.
The gaffer hinted at individualistic play with players’ performances crafted for national team summons rather than helping the club win games.
“It’s getting so common for the players because most of them concentrate more on playing and getting summoned to the national team. All they need is to be present and they are automatically summoned to national team because they have representation from their managers and agencies.
“You see them fighting less for the team and for a game like this we want that spirit of dying a little for the club because moments were there but someone could not push himself that extra mile. You could see the [lack of] concentration.”
Mubiru referenced Sadat Anaku for a player who fights for the club and is pleased with Usama Arafat’s performance.
“Someone who came with an ambition to win the top scorer [award] like Sadat (Anaku) who had the ambition of being a top scorer you could see him fighting every match to achieve that.
“I was not happy with my players today but the only positive is that Usama [Arafat] is beginning to show the real Usama and with him back on form will ease our goal scoring problem we have.”
It does not get any easier for KCCA as next up is a trip to west of the country to take on Mbarara City before returning to Lugogo for matches agaainst the two teams ahead of them in the standings.
“We can’t now afford to slip further in the title race but you don’t see it in players. We don’t see the [fighting spirit] in players [and] we have make sure we instill it.”
