Aberdeen star Jack Mackenzie has been left bloodied after allegedly being struck by a seat thrown from his own fans in shocking scenes.

Chaos unfolded following Aberdeen‘s 2-1 defeat away at Dundee United in the final day of the season to leave them in fifth spot in the Scottish Premiership.

As jubilant Dundee fans invaded the pitch after sealing fourth place and the last Europa League qualifying spot, a projectile was hurled from the furious travelling end.

And the object struck Mackenzie, who was an unused substitute, which has left the 24-year-old requiring stitches on his open wound.

Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin slammed the incident in his post-match interview to BBC Scotland, where he labelled it as a ‘disgrace’.

Goodwin knows all too well about Aberdeen anger having been subject to attacks from supporters since departing the club in 2023.

He said: “I deliberately took myself off the pitch as quickly as I could because we’ve had previous with the Aberdeen supporters in the past.

“I’m really disappointed to hear young Jack has been hit by an object thrown by his own supporters.

“He’s inside having stitches now, it’s an absolute disgrace.

“It’s probably taken something as serious as this to happen for the authorities to finally step in and do something about it to identify these idiots who let down a really good club.”

As for Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin, he raged: “What’s happened is totally unacceptable.

“It is actually a bad injury, but Jack is OK so let’s see how it feels after more minutes.

“It is not acceptable, really really bad. I haven’t seen exactly what happened but our player got hurt, bad.

“I think everyone understands that is not okay.

“He got treatment already and the medical team did really well.

“There is the shock also when this happens.

“You are a football player in a football game and get hit like that.

“We just take care of the player now and take it from there. He has had stitches.”

Meanwhile, An SPFL spokesperson has slammed the shameful incident, with it being said they will now work with the police in an investigation.

They said: “It’s enormously disappointing and frustrating that one of the most exciting games in the season has been marred by such moronic behaviour.

“We await the match delegate report but will work closely with both clubs and Police Scotland to help identify the perpetrator and fully expect that appropriately severe footballing and judicial sanctions will be imposed.”

Aberdeen were on course for fourth spot after taking the lead in the 15th minute through Jeppe Okkels.

But they were unable to hold on for all three points, with Declan Gallagher and Sam Dalby scoring with the opening 18 minutes of the second half.
