McIlroy has a healthy lead in the Race to Dubai standings and is closing in on his sixth title.

That would draw him level with Seve Ballesteros’ tally and two behind Colin Montgomerie who has the most titles ever with eight.

France’s Victor Perez won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship last season, holding off Min Woo Lee and Sebastian Soderberg.

And another glittering field will take on the Yas Links course and battle it out for the $9million prize fund.
