AC Milan will start Matchday 31 ninth in the table with 47 points from 30 matches. The Rossoneri have won 13, drawn eight and lost nine.
Milan took a break from their Serie A woes on Wednesday when they faced city rivals Inter in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final. The match finished 1-0 with Tammy Abraham scoring for the Red and Blacks and Hakan Calhanoglu finding the net for the blue half of the city.
Attention now turns back to Serie A for Milan head coach Sergio Conceicao. His team are five points behind Roma, who occupy the final European spot in 6th place.
After a troubled start to the season that saw Paulo Fonseca sacked at the end of 2024, things have improved under Conceicao in recent weeks. Milan have won five of their last nine.
But when picking up 16 points from 27 is an improvement, it shows just how far the club have fallen.
Milan’s most recent result in the league was a 2-1 defeat away to title-chasing Napoli on Sunday. The defeat ended a two-match winning streak. The Rossoneri will want to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.
Like their opponents on Saturday, Fiorentina are also outside the top six and European qualifying places in Serie A.
The Viola are eighth in the table with 51 points from 30 matches. They have won 15, drawn six and lost nine.
Raffaele Palladino’s team is having a strange season. An impressive start to the campaign saw the Viola sitting in the top four until the turn of the year.
But things have started to go wrong in recent weeks, with Palladino’s team losing three in a row in February.
A corner seems to have been turned with three wins in their last four Serie A matches. The wins all came at their Florence home. They were against Leece (1-0), Juventus (3-0) and last Sunday, Atalanta (1-0).
The Viola’s run of home form is in direct contrast to their away form. They have lost their last three on the road, although, it has to be noted that two of the defeats were to Inter and Napoli.
