After Shad Khan’s ‘winning is the expectation’ boast, Jacksonville Jaguars have given themselves a $275 million Trevor Lawrence question

Trevor Lawrence is now 0-8 in his last eight starts.

The former first overall pick and the Jaguars were humiliated on Monday Night Football at the hands of Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills to the tune of 47-10.

It was a complete undressing for Lawrence and the Jaguars on a national stage, who now all of a sudden have a $275 million uncertainty at quarterback.

What happened in Jacksonville?

That is the question the folks of Duval County are asking themselves as Lawrence feels the heat, and perhaps even more, head coach Doug Pederson becomes the NFL coach under the most immediate pressure to keep his job..

It feels like just yesterday Lawrence and Pederson pulled off that historical 27-point comeback against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The largest comeback in franchise history and the third largest in playoff history.

Remember that?

That was less than two years ago in the Wild Card Round of the postseason, but at this point, it may as well have been 20 years ago.

This whole Jaguars team has regressed under Pederson over the last year, at a rapid pace, including Lawrence.

And that isn’t great news, considering Jacksonville signed Lawrence to a five-year, $275 million extension this past June.

A deal that includes $200 million in guaranteed money and $142 million fully guaranteed at signing. In other words, Lawrence isn’t going anywhere.

And nor should he.

Lawrence has all the tools to be in the upper echelon of quarterbacks. He’s shown it. We’ve seen it.

Which is why his regression has been so shocking to watch unfold.

Lawrence is far from the only reason the Jaguars keep losing games, albeit as the $275 million man, the onus falls on him.

It starts and ends with number 16. This was supposed to be the season where Lawrence took the Jags to the next level.

To get that sour taste out of everyone’s mouth after the late season collapse last year, losing five out of their last six and missing out on the postseason entirely.

Expectations were high, especially as Jags owner Shad Khan put it back in August.

“Winning now is the expectation,” Khan said. “Make no mistake, this is the best team assembled by the Jacksonville Jaguars, ever.

“Best players, best coaches. But most importantly, let’s prove it by winning now.”

Well, ‘the best team assembled by the Jacksonville Jaguars, ever’ now sits at 0-3 after three dreadful performances.

The house is on fire and it is up to Lawrence to put it out.

That’s the responsibility of a $275 million man.
