Despite defeat to Cameroon and Zimbabwe’s win over Namibia, Kenya Harambee Stars’ Teddy Akumu and Joseph Okumu still believe the nation can qualify for Afcon finals in 2025.
The 1-0 defeat to the Indomitable Lions left Kenya on four points, four behind Zimbabwe who beat Namibia 3-1 with six points to play for.
“It is disappointing to lose in the manner we did,” midfielder Akumu told Kawowo Sports. “I don’t think we had a bad performance but the referee was never on our side and we conceded from a free kick that never was,” he added.
“But we still have a chance although it is now not entirely in our hands and until it is over, we cant give up.”
Same sentiments were echoed by France based defender Okumu who plays for Ligue 1 side Reims.
“We have two matches against Zimbabwe and Namibia which we believe we can win so until it is mathematically over, we won’t give up,” he said.
The duo also believe hosting matches away from home has a significant impact on the results with only Cameroon in their group having a certified stadium to host at home.
