Alfred Dunhill Links Championship 2024 golf betting preview

If you want to see big names this week, take a trip to St Andrews in Scotland.

Not only do we have some of the world’s best golfers on show but, as this is a pro-am, celebrities will be pacing the fairways too.

Look out for sports icons Gareth Bale, Kevin Pietersen and Sir Steve Redgrave along with Hollywood royalty such as Michael Douglas and Bill Murray.

The 72-hole tournament takes place on three courses – St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns – with the 60 leading pros and ties along with the 20 lowest-scoring pro-am teams battling it out at St Andrews again for the final round.

The courses are set up to make life easier for the amateurs so expect to see birdies and eagles galore.

Bad weather reduced this event to 54 holes last year but, despite that, Matt Fitzpatrick still managed to post 19-under.

The forecast this year looks better with sunshine for the first two days, perhaps a bit of drizzle on the weekend but nothing serious in terms of wind.

Rory McIlroy ready for redemption

Rory McIlroy has 17 wins on the DP World Tour, 26 on the PGA Tour and four Majors.

But there’s been plenty of near misses down the years and that’s the story going into this one.

The Northern Irishman is a three-time runner-up at this event and has a third and a fourth too.

He returns for another crack on the back of agonising second places at both the Irish Open and BMW PGA Championship in his last two starts.

But clearly Rory is playing some great golf again and with nothing extreme in the weather forecast, this could be the week where he finally gets it done here.

Back McIlroy for the win at 7/1 with bet365

Alex Noren best each-way punt

For an each-way bet, Alex Noren leaps off the page at 25/1 with Betfred.

The Swede has shown some great form in 2024 and reminded us of his links prowess with 10th in the Scottish Open and 13th a week later in the Open Championship at Royal Troon.

At this event, his last six appearances have produced a second (2022), a third and three other top 15s.

Noren is a genuine tournament specialist and could also be worth a look in the top 5 (5/1), top 10 (13/5) and top 20 (6/5) markets.

Bet on Alex Noren to leap off the page at 25/1 with Betfred

Brooks Koepka to beat Billy Horschel

The field is given an extra dash of glamour with the participation of American duo Brooks Koepka and Billy Horschel.

Horschel stole the show by pipping McIlroy to victory at Wentworth a couple of weeks ago and he’s done well in this event too with 36th, 10th and 14th.

But Koepka has an exceptional Alfred Dunhill Links record with ninth, second and seventh in his last three visits.

Koepka, a five-time major winner no less, has also been sharp on the LIV Tour of late, winning the Greenbrier event and finishing sixth in Chicago last month.

Take Koepka to beat Horschel over 72 holes at 5/6 with bet365
