The 2024 Stanbic Entebbe Golf Open will officially tee off on Wednesday, 30th October at the par-71 lake side Entebbe club.
At least 200 golfers will be engaged in the grueling championship, a signature tournament for this 1901 founded golfing and other sports facility.
From the positive vibe portrayed during the official launch of this tournament by the key stakeholders at the Stanbic Business Incubator in Kololo, all signs are eminent that this championship, according to plan, will be a sale out.
Stanbic Bank, the title sponsors of the tournament for the second-year running were ably represented at the launch by Arthur Kiwanuka, the head of affluent banking docket.
“Stanbic Bank is super excited to support the Entebbe Open for the second year running with Ug.Shs 100,000,000.” Kiwanuka grinned.

“Last year, we had the professionals in action and they played their A-game. We have had the professionals’ kitty increased from Ug.Shs 35,000,000 to Ug.Shs 40,000,000. The rest of the money (at least Ug.Shs 60,000,000) will go to the rest of the dockets” Kiwanuka.

Eng. Byamukama lauded the title sponsors (Stanbic Bank) and other partners, hailing the support from members as he called upon as many participants as possible.
“Stanbic Bank is well appreciated for this sponsorship towards the Entebbe Open, our main championship. The quality of the course is overwhelming. I invite you all to come and play in the Stanbic Entebbe Open. I also thank the supportive membership.” Eng. Byamukama revealed.
Serwano Walusimbi, the captain at Entebbe Club, too, saluted the partnership with Stanbic Bank as he anticipates a great degree of competition among both the amateurs and professional golfers.
“I am very grateful for the partnership with Stanbic Bank for now two years in a row. The Stanbic Entebbe Open is a world Amateur Golf Ranking tournament and therefore, we expect stiff competition. The amateurs will also be battling for Ug.Shs 5,000,000 kitty. The professionals will play for Ug.Shs 40,000,000. This will definitely bring out the best from the golfers” Walusimbi reasoned.
There are over 30 Ugandan professionals set to play and about 11 foreign based pros.
The main amateurs (gross) are 40 so far and the rest will feature in the subsidiary cluster on the final day (Saturday, 2nd November 2024).
The professionals will play 72 holes in four rounds with 54 holes for the amateurs (gross).
With the top cream of gross players in Zimbabwe (Bulawayo) with the Uganda national team for the 2024 All Africa Golf Championship, the field still has formidable faces as Michael Tumusiime, Joseph Kasozi, Brian Mugabe, Dennis Kabarira, Emmanuel Moko, William Bwambale and the rest to compete.
Last year’s gross winner was Godfrey Nsubuga who is currently based in the United States of America (USA) for college education whilst Tadeo Rodell Gaita was the champion in the professional docket.
