  • Group B Men: Francis Diku – 86 Gross (70 Nett)
  • Group C Men: Joel Apangu – 98 Gross (70 Nett)

The 26th edition of the Kinyara Golf Open was successfully climaxed on Saturday, 23rd November 2024 at the par-71 Kinyara Golf Club in Masindi.

Over 150 golfers were engaged in the thrilling action played over three days in the amateurs (gross and subsidiary), seniors as well as professionals’ categories.

The top performers were rewarded with cash, trophies, plaques, refrigerators, television sets, microwaves and other goodies.

Joseph Kasozi, a member of the Uganda golf national team won the gross cluster with a total of 216 gross played in three rounds.

Kasozi scored 73, 70 and 73 in the three rounds and applauded the management of Kinyara Sugar management for his victory.

“Since I started to play golf at Kinyara Golf course, the management of Kinyara Sugar Limited has been supportive and fully behind me. I am dedicate this victory to them. I am overwhelmed for this victory” Kasozi who earned precious points on the world golf amateur ranking system remarked.

Ivan Sekulima came second (227),  Abdullah Kakooza (232) was third, Christopher Basaliza (233) came fourth whilst the trio of Godfrey Kambale, Samuel Bazaale and Tonny Ochen were joint fifth with 234 gross apiece.

In the professionals’ category, towering Grace Kasango scored 70 and 73 in two rounds to amass 143 and claim a lion’s share of the Ug.Shs 10,000,000 prize money kitty.

Ladies:

Handicap 5 lady golfer Lillian Koowe scored 78 gross to topple the rest of the ladies. Koowe was a shot better than Judith Komugisha.

Bridget Basiima (83), Laura Natukunda (84) and Robinah Angom (87) completed the top five golfers.

Seniors:

The seniors’ cluster (above 55 years);CD Langoya was winner with 90 Gross (64 Nett) for the males.

Grace Obua scored 108 Gross (87 Nett) to win the female senior’s event.

Groups:

 Jimmy Matata won the men group A with 74 Gross (69 Nett). Francis Diku came top in group B with 86 Gross (70 Nett) whilst Joel Apangu came with 98 Gross (70 Nett) in group C.

Side-bets:

Robinah Angom won the nearest to the pin for the ladies over the famous swamp on the par-3 hole 7.

Denis Aguma was the male winner on the same hole.

Long hitting Judith Komugisha swung longest on the par-5 hole 4 with Simon Ojobile taking the male prize.

The Kinyara Sugar Limited top brass management, led by the General manager Ramalingam Ravi officiated at the final day of this championship that marked 26 years since the inaugural edition.

The tournament is organized by Kinyara Sugar Limited and is supported by Liaison Group, ICEA Lion Insurance, Gold Star Insurance Company Limited, UAP Old Mutual, Sanlam Insurance and MUA.
