Darts fans inside Alexandra Palace were certainly ‘Thinking Out Loud’ when they spotted Ed Sheeran in attendance.

The singer and Ipswich sponsor and co-owner was in the crowd at Ally Pally for Friday’s PDC World Darts Championship.

Spectators quickly recognised him, despite him wearing a cap to help cover his appearance.

And it didn’t take long for the boozy crowd to throw some light-hearted Tractor Boys banter his way.

Footage shows Sheeran sat at a table in the arena, waiting for the action to commence.

Those around him can be heard singing ‘Ipswich get battered, everywhere they go’ at him.

Someone on his table, meanwhile, clearly found the whole ordeal hilarious and stood up, pumping his fist along to the singing.

Sheeran eventually raised his cup to those singing at him before continuing in conversation with his pals.

Ipswich got promoted to the Premier League for the first time since 2002 last season, completing back to back promotions from League One under ex-Manchester United coach Kieran McKenna.

The Tractor Boys are currently third from bottom in the top flight, two points away from safety – hence the chant.

The ‘Perfect’ singer began sponsoring Ipswich, his local football club, in 2021.

He was also named in the club’s squad list and given the squad number 17.

In August 2024, Sheeran acquired a minority stake in the club of 1.4 per cent.

Sheeran has been spotted at games since he became a sponsor, but has been seen in the crowd more regularly since their promotion from the Championship.

He recently sparked controversy by interrupting a Sky Sports interview with Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim after the 1-1 draw at Portman Road – and later apologised.

The Tractor Boys face Newcastle at home on Saturday as they look for their third league win of the season.

Their two victories in the top flight since their return in August came against Wolves and Tottenham.
