Musa Ssegaabwe is looking back at his debut year in the local motorsport with pride and satisfaction.

Ssegaabwe claimed the stamp of approval from the fans, becoming a household name due to his driving skills characterised with charisma and lively performances throughout the season.

As he puts the season to past, Ssegaabwe revealed his favorite events of 2024.

“I don’t have a specific one. But Fort Portal, Gulu and Hoima will always be those events to remember.”

“In Fort Portal I won three stages and they even gave me the ‘the driver of the event’ award. Heading to Gulu, to my surprise my name was chanted everywhere, from the track to the night clubs; that gave me a good feeling. Hoima has been equally good, I didn’t win a stage, but I was satisfied with my performance,” he explained.

With Mathius Kiyenga calling the notes in the Mitsubishi IX, Ssegaabwe convincingly topped all the events to clinch the Clubman Rally Championship(CRC).

The crew is currently leading the Autocross championship and could be double champions at the end of the season.

“Winning a championship is an achievement. It comes as some satisfaction from the efforts we put in throughout the season. I am grateful that I achieved it.” said Ssegaabwe.

The crew ended what was a fantastic season with another sublime performance in Hoima.

An off-road excursion in the Power stage was the only scare for the driver that has had seamless drives all year.

“We were really pushing from the start. Honesty, I had to enter the corner with gear three. I thought I could enter with gear five and it didn’t go well,” he explained.

That incident could have taken the Mitsubishi to longer days in the garage.

“The moment I went off the road, I just knew the worst is about to happen. Luckily, I made a quick reaction, dropping to gear three. And immediately the car flipped on my side. I tried over steering and that helped but caused a puncture,” he added.

With the CRC challenge now behind him, Ssegabwe will be classified in the National Rally championship in 2025.

Ssegaabwe admits nothing will change with his performance after the promotion.

“I am going to be the same driver, doing the same things in my capacity.”

“Next season will be more about reinforcing my preparations and improving our performance gradually. I am sure the competition will be tight since I will be against many drivers compared to CRC. And that’s were preparation will come in,” he said.

However, the CRC champion says he will have plenty to work on ahead of the new challenge.

“For sure, next season, the challenge will be more on the car. In CRC, we have been doing 70% of the itinerary. But with a full event, it means the car will be more drained. We need to come up with a strategy that will sustain us throughout the event,” he says.
