Altay Bayindir came into the side in Onana’s place but failed to convince as his mistake allowed the Magpies to score their fourth.

The Cameroonian is now set to regain his place, the United boss confirmed in his pre-match press conference.

Asked who will be in goal on Thursday, Amorim told reporters: “Onana, he will play tomorrow.”

On the goalkeeping situation, he continued: “As a coach and former player first of all I try to do things that can help a player in this situation.

“We speak about managing players physically but we also have to manage them also mentally.

“We had one weekend where I felt it was better for Andre Onana not to play and a good thing for Altay to play.”

Meanwhile, Amorim also confirmed Joshua Zirkzee will miss the rest of the season through injury.

The Dutch forward was forced off after 55 minutes at St. James’ Park.

His absence leaves Rasmus Hojlund as the only senior striker available to Amorim.

The Portuguese explained: “Joshua is out for the season. He will not play more this season, let’s prepare him for the next one.

“It is tough for him especially in this moment. He is improving in all aspects and it is hard for any player to stop.”

Amorim has not been handed any further injury concerns as he hopes to welcome back players in the coming weeks.

He added that United are confident both Amad Diallo and Matthijs de Ligt will return to action before the end of the campaign.

The Red Devils are looking to end a four-match winless run when their French opponents visit Old Trafford.

Last week’s first leg ended in a 2-2 draw after Rayan Cherki’s stoppage time equaliser.

Onana had been at fault for both of the home side’s goals as the pressure mounted on the United stopper.

The Europa League remains the club’s only way into Europe next season with the winner earning a spot in the Champions League.

United will face either Rangers or Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals if they advance against Lyon.
