Ayr 1:15 Revich 17/2
Ayr 1:50 Phantom Flight 11/4
Ayr 3:40 Rohaan 12/1
Chester 4:45 Small Fry
York 1:15 – LiveScore Bet Daily Extra Places Handicap (1m)
When you see form figures of 00000 next to REVICH, it certainly doesn’t inspire much confidence as a betting proposition today. However, a deeper look shows it’s not as bad as it seems.
Granted, his first three runs of the season were disappointing, but after returning at the beginning of August following an 84-day break, he started to show more promising signs.
He finished 11th, beaten by 6 lengths, in a Class 2 handicap at Goodwood, followed by another 11th-place finish at Chester, this time by 5 lengths. On both occasions, he didn’t get the clearest of runs.
What makes me want to side with him is that he’s now 7lb lower than when he won this very race last season.
I’ve taken a lot of encouragement from his last two runs, and I’m sure that a repeat success has been the plan for some time.
At his current handicap mark, he looks too well-treated to ignore and represents great value at an each-way price.

Ayr 1:50 – Listed LiveScore Bet Doonside Cup Stakes (1m2f)
A gelding operation and a change of stables seem to have brought out the best in PHANTOM FLIGHT.
He started this season with a Listed win over this trip at Newbury, easily beating Al Aasy.
The two then squared off again over 2f further in a Group 3 at Goodwood, where Phantom Flight didn’t fully see out the trip, finishing 3rd.
Next, at York, the opposite happened— the 1m1f trip wasn’t quite far enough, as he finished fast for 2nd, just failing to catch See The Fire (with Enfjaar in 5th).
Today, Phantom Flight drops back into Listed company, and with the race being over his ideal trip, I don’t see any issue with him having to give weight to his rivals.
He sets a high standard for this level and should be hard to beat.

Ayr 3:35 – Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup Handicap (6f)
The final selection at Ayr comes in what is probably the most competitive race, where I’m backing an old favorite, ROHAAN.
When siding with Rohaan, you’re often at the mercy of the racing gods.
His hold-up tactics leave you sweating throughout the race, hoping the gaps will appear at just the right time.
This is the time of year when he typically comes into his own, and he showed clear signs last time out at Ascot that he might be about to strike again.
A small field and a slow pace were his undoing that day, but he still managed a solid 3rd.
Today, pace won’t be an issue, as the race promises to be fast and furious from start to finish. If he doesn’t get too far back and the gaps open at the right moments, he looks very well-handicapped at his current mark.
I can’t see him being out of the money.

Chester 4:45 – Camden Hells Handicap (1m6½f)
At the time of writing, prices aren’t yet available, but today’s final selection looks poised to make it 3 wins from his last 4 runs.
SMALL FRY comes into this race in top form after an easy win on soft ground at Epsom last weekend.
This fast-improving 3-year-old has really found his stride since switching to the Moore stable and tackling longer distances.
He’s been raised just 5lb for that latest win, where he probably hit the front a bit sooner than jockey Tom Queally would have preferred.
Being drawn in stall 4, which suits a horse that likes to be near the pace, is a big plus here, and he shouldn’t have any issues with Chester’s layout. There’s every chance Small Fry can give the retiring Franny Norton one last winner.
