A lot is on the line on the final day of the jump season. Either Willie Mullins will claim back-to-back UK trainers championships, or Dan Skelton will finally get over the line and claim his first title.
It will not be easy for the Skeletons to grab the trainers championship from the clutches of the master of Closutton, who is set to let loose some of his stable superstars.

Sandown 1:20 bet365 Novices’ Championship Final Handicap Hurdle – 2m (Class 2) (4yo+)
A nice opening to the final day of the jumps season, as a field 15 go to post for the bet365 Championship Final Handicap. Many come in here on top of their game, with the likes of Serious Challenge, Nardanran, St Pancras all coming in here on the back of wins, but a chance is taken with another with recent winning form, GIVE IT TO ME OJ.
This four-year-old has won two of his last three starts, with a fourth in the Grade 1 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle sandwiched between those wins. He must carry top weight here, but he is not your typical small four-year-old and should have no problem carrying that weight.
He does tend to race keenly, but given the promise of a strong pace here, Give It To Me Oj should have no problem finding cover and settling. He’s a horse with bags of potential and looks like a solid each-way player in a competitive field.
- Selection: Give It To Me Oj 12/1 (e/w)
- Danger: Serious Challenge 15/2 (e/w)
- Current Betting: Sorceleur 9/2, Kientzheim 13/2, Serious Challenge 15/2, Nardaran 10/1, Give It To Me Oj 10/1, Wolf Moon 11/1, 11/1 bar.

Sandown 1:50 bet365 Josh Gifford Novices’ Handicap Chase – 2m4f (Class 2) (5yo+)
Riskingtheground comes here on top of his game and is looking for a quick-fire hat trick for the Skeltons. He has gone up 12 lbs for his wins at Ayr and Cheltenham, but he has to have a massive chance if this does not come too quickly.
Bad is one who could easily bounce back here after not taking to the national fences last time and has to be considered now that he has finally gotten his head in front this season. But it’s hard to get away from bottom weight CLASSIC ANTHEM, who recorded his two career wins at this track (hurdles and chase) and was an easy winner over course and distance last month.
He has gotten away with a 5 lb rise for that win, and with the champion jockey elect Sean Bowen on his back once again, Classic Anthem can prove hard to beat, getting weight from all his rivals.
Mahons Way may be the outsider of the field, but he has a solid place chance in his current form.
- Selection: Classic Anthem 7/2
- Danger: Riskintheground 4/1
- Current Betting: Classic Anthem 7/2, Riskintheground 4/1, Eyed 5/1, Bad 13/2, Insurrection 8/1, Pic Roc 10/1, Mark Of Gold 10/1, 12/1 bar.

Sandown 2:25 Grade 2 bet365 Oaksey Chase – 2m6½f (5yo+)
If Pic D’orhy translated his Ascot form to Sandown, he would be a live threat to all, but he has been well beaten in his two previous visits to this track. That leaves this wide open for the rejuvenated GAELIC WARRIOR to back up his easy win in the Grade 1 Aintree Bowl.
Gaelic Warrior has his own way of doing things, and he looked out of sorts when well beaten in two starts this season, but a step back up in trip worked the oracle as he bounced back to his brilliant best at Aintree.
The slight drop in trip here shouldn’t inconvenience him at a track that should suit him more than Aintree. If he can run to that level here, it’s hard to see any of his rivals being able to live with him.
His main danger may come from his stablemate, Gentleman De Mee, who found his form again when winning the Topham Chase at Aintree.
- Selection: Gaelic Warrior 6/4 (NAP)
- Danger: Gentleman De Mee 15/2 (e/w)
- Current Betting: Gaelic Warrior 6/4, Pic D’orhy 5/2, Gentleman De Mee 15/2, Boombawn 14/1, Appreciate It 16/1, Hitman 16/1, 18/1 bar.

Sandown 3:00 Grade 2 bet365 Select Hurdle – 2m5½f (4yo+)
This year’s entries for the Select Hurdle are a far cry from last season when Bob Olinger, Langer Dan, and Impaire Et Passe all lined up for an epic battle. This season still has its appeal, with some young up-and-comers.
The Willie Mullins-trained Kitzbuhel was very disappointing when sent off favourite for the Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree. He needs to leave that form well behind to play a major role in the finish, but his competition is not as strong as what he faced at Aintree.
The same can be said for the selection LUCKY PLACE, and for me, he didn’t see out the 3m in the Stayers Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. Before his defeat at Cheltenham, Lucky Place showed that he was on a steep upward curve with back-to-back Grade 2 wins over 2m3 and 2m4. He’s faced with a drop back in trip here, which looks set to be ideal for this Nicky Henderson-trained gelding.
He hasn’t run since Cheltenham, so he will come in here fresher than most, and if he can leave his Cheltenham disappointment behind, Lucky Place can get back to winning ways here.
Take No Chances has a win over Kargese this season and has since chased home Lossiemouth at Cheltenham and Aintree. She could prove the biggest danger to the selection.
- Selection: Lucky Place 11/4 (NB)
- Danger: Take No Chances 13/2
- Current Betting: Kitzbuhel 2/1, Lucky Place 11/4, Salver 9/2, Take No Chances 13/2, Blueking D’oroux 8/1, Gwennie May Boy 16/1.

Sandown 3:35 Grade 1 bet365 Celebration Chase – 1m7½f (5yo+)
Jonbon has won the last two renewals of this race, and there is no reason why he can not make it three in a row here. He is the most likely winner, but the betting without Jonbon market is the way to play here.
Energumene was pulled up in the Champion Chase, and at the age of 11, his best days are behind him. So, it can pay to take a chance on the returning IL ETAIT TEMPS. This talent grey had a setback at the start of the season and missed out on some key targets along the way, but could make up for lost time here.
The fact that Willie Mullins has chosen to bring him over to Sandown instead of keeping him at home for Punchestown next week gives you hope that he is flying at home and is more than ready to do himself justice on his return to the track. It is a big task for him to get the better of Jonbon, but if he is ready to roll for his return, he is the young horse in the lineup that can give Jonbon the most to think about.
- Selection: Il Etait Temps w/o Jonbon 15/8
- Current Betting: Jonbon 8/15, Energumene 11/2, Il Etait Temps 6/1, Edwardstone 14/1, Master Chewy 20/1, Unexpected Party 25/1, Harper’s Brook 125/1

Sandown 4:10 bet365 Gold Cup Handicap Chase – 3m4½f (5yo+)
Willie Mullins is throwing everything at the bet365 Gold Cup and is responsible for ten of the 20 runners, and he looks set to win back-to-back runnings of this race. But which of his ten runners holds the best chance?
He saddles last year’s winner Minella Cocooner, who is 4 lb higher this time around and comes here after a more than creditable run in the Aintree Grand National. He is a tough and resilient chaser who is more than capable of backing up his runs. Grangclare West was somewhat unlucky in the Aintree Grand National, where a nod on landing after the last proved costly as he eventually went down by only three lengths to Nick Rockett.
High Class Hero looks well weighted here, but for me, he needs to show a fair bit more on his handicap debut. Being trained by Willie Mullins, that is more than possible. But the one who looks the one to be on, even given his recent fall, is DANCING CITY.
Dancing City is your classic case of a Grade 1 horse hiding in a handicap, and off a mark of 151, I expect him to be much better than his current mark. He was travelling powerfully when coming down at the 14th in the Grade 1 Mildmay Novices’ Chase at Aintree and would have been bang there at the finish if it wasn’t for that. Dancing City is a three-time Grade 1 novice hurdle winner, and it is only a matter of time before everything clicks with him over fences, and today can be that day over a trip that is sure to be right up his street.
- Selection: Dancing City 7/1 (e/w)
- Danger: Minella Cocooner 15/2 (e/w)
- Current Betting: High Class Hero 4/1, Dancing City 7/1, Minella Cocooner 15/2, Resplendent Grey 8/1, Grangclare West 17/2, Transmission 10/1, 11/1 bar.

Sandown 4:45 bet365 Handicap Hurdle – 2m4f (4yo+ 0-145)
The final race in the 24/25 jump season is unlikely to have a bearing on where the trainer’s championship ends up, but Willie Mullins and Dan Skelton have the favourite and second favourite in the betting, adding the final bit of spice to what has been a fantastic jump season.
Mostly Sunny bounced right back to form with an easy win at Plumpton on Monday and has a live chance of following up if conditions don’t deteriorate. Jump Allen ran his best race to date when chasing home Quebecios at Ayr. He has been left on the same make, and if he can back that run up, he could be the one to close the season on a high for team Mullins. But, I want to give BUNTING one more chance in the hope that they ride him closer to the pace here.
He tends to race keenly in his races, but if they decide to position him closer to the pace, they can make full use of that stamina, and it may even help him settle if they leave him roll from the front.
Push The Button has shown that he has enough talent in his locker to challenge in these types of races, as seen in his last two starts, and if he can find some more improvement here, he is far from out of it.
- Selection: Bunting 7/1 (e/w)
- Danger: Push The Button 7/1 (e/w)
- Current Betting: Mostly Sunny 11/2, Jump Allen 11/2, Ike Sport 6/1, Bunting 7/1, Push The Button 7/1, Dr Eggman 15/2, 8/1 bar.
