Andy Reid has the perfect Travis Kelce solution amid bench talk for ‘frightening’ Kansas City Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have got off to a slow start to begin the year, yet are 3-0. Make that make sense.

As Jason Bell put it, in an exclusive with talkSPORT, it’s ‘Frightening.’

It’s not been great for Kelce and the Chiefs so far… except they are 3-0Getty

A team that is playing nowhere near its potential, still undefeated and collecting wins.

“This is when you look at great teams, players, coaches and organizations that know how to win,” Bell said.

“They get these kinds of games, it doesn’t look great, the best player says he’s not playing at his highest levels, that is Patrick Mahomes, but they’re stacking wins.

“And it’s because that defense is playing well. They are up to the challenge every single week. They carried this team last year when they won the Super Bowl.

“So now, if they continue to do that and the offense continues to evolve when you have Patrick Mahomes you know you’re going to be in the championship round and playing well because if there’s one thing this team knows how to do, it knows how to meet a challenge, especially later in the season.”

The Chiefs are 3-0 despite the fact that their star tight end, Travis Kelce, is off to the worst start in his career – there’s even talk in some corners the future Hall of Famer should be benched.

Coach Andy Reid, though, has shut that down and let everyone know his star man has his full support.

Through three games, Kelce has eight receptions for for 69 yards and zero touchdowns.

Those are the numbers for a third string tight end, not for a player of Kelce’s caliber.

The 12-year veteran may finally be over the hill, but Bell believes head coach Andy Reid has the perfect solution to make up for Kelce’s lack of production.

“There’s a guy named Rasher Rice,” Bell said.

Kelce has looked every bit of the 12-year veteran that he is, and not in a good wayGetty

“He is the number one receiver in that offense, so he’s getting a lot of targets.

“The thing about Travis Kelce is nobody should panic. They need him good at the end of the season and in the playoffs. That’s the key.

“There’s no panic button. This team is 3-and-0 because their defense is playing well. They got the best quarterback in the NFL on offense. They just need to find their way.”

That’s what is ‘frightening’ for the rest of the league.

The Chiefs are 3-0 and are still looking to find their way.

The moment they do, it might be wraps for the rest of the league. As soon as Mahomes and the offense catch up to how well their defense has been playing, it’s going to be trouble.

Even Kelce, who looks every bit of the 12 years he’s been in the league, always seems to find a way when the lights are at their brightest and the stakes at their highest.

Mahomes and the Chiefs are looking to become the first team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a row

The Chiefs are trying to do something no team has ever accomplished in the history of the NFL.

Win three Lombardi Trophies in a row.

Back-to-back-to-back.

They are going to need Mahomes and Kelce at their best in order to do that. In the meantime, the offense can lean on Rice, while the defense carries the day, and they continue to stack wins.

The moment it all clicks for this team, it’s going to be ‘frightening.’
