Tournament: Jinja Open Table Tennis
Venue: St Andrews Hall – Jinja
Date: Saturday December 7 to Sunday December 8
Samuel Ankunda is confident that he will retain his title ahead of the fifth edition of the Jinja Open Table Tennis Tournament.
The tournament is set to take place at St Andrews Hall in Jinja starting on Saturday December 7 and ending on Sunday December 8.
During a press conference at head quarters of the Mandela Group of Companies, Ankunda opened up about the preparations done ahead of the tournament.
“I am ready for the upcoming tournament and I cannot wait to get going,” he calmly said.
“We have had two weeks to prepare for this tournament. The coaches have done a great job and it’s now upon us (players) to execute,” he added.
According to the organisers, the tournament is set to have foreign players coming from China, USA, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda.
However, Ankunda acknowledges that he is not intimidated since he will be at home.
“It’s a pleasure to compete against foreign players. I am confident because I will be playing at home unlike them. I am sure God will see us through,” he said.
The highly anticipated tournament has received a big boost from City Tyres who have provided all the trophies to be won by the eventual winners.
The tournament is expected to have over 4000 participants who will compete in different age groups from eight to 18 and the an open pool.
The ultimate champion in the men and women’s category will walk away with UGX One Million each.
