Edgar Berlanga wants a piece of Anthony Joshua, despite the staggering six-stone weight difference between the pair.

Berlanga competes at super middleweight (168lbs) and started his career at middleweight (160lbs).

Meanwhile, AJ is a full-blown heavyweight, who typically tips the scales north of the 250lbs mark.

But that hasn’t stopped the brash Puerto Rican from throwing his hat in the ring for a fight with the two-time unified heavyweight champion.

Speaking on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday, he wrote: “I would love to go up to heavyweight and fight Anthony Joshua just to test greatness.

“Nothing bad towards this. I’ll walk in the ring 210lbs.”

Joshua suffered the fourth defeat of his 32-fight (28-4) career on Saturday night against Daniel Dubois.

The British rivals duked it out at Wembley Stadium in front of a British record crowd of 98,128 for the IBF heavyweight title.

AJ struggled to gain a foothold in the fight as he was decked four times en route to the eventual fifth-round knockout victory.

Several members of the boxing fraternity called for Joshua to retire in the immediate aftermath.

But the Watford powerhouse insists he will continue fighting.

There is a rematch clause in AJ’s contract but not Dubois’, making a second fight a little more complicated than Eddie Hearn and Co. would like.

However, Dubois and his promotional team insist they are open to running it back in 2025.

Dubois told talkSPORT’s White and Jordan show: “Yeah [I’d rematch Joshua] if that happens down the line then yes.

“If that happens next then yeah. I want to go for it.

“I want to do even better next time. I know where I need to improve as well, so as a champion and a fighter I want to prove people wrong every time and that’s what we have been doing…

“I think I would, I can do a lot better than that. It was a great showing but next time I believe I’ll be more clinical. More sharp, everything.”

If it’s not the Dubois rematch next then Queensberry Promotions chief Frank Warren has refused to rule out the Tyson Fury fight.

“I think people may still want it, if he comes back and has a win who knows,” Warren told talkSPORT Breakfast.

“Fury has to face Usyk first in a rematch on December 21, but I fancy him to come through it.

“This division is alive, losers fighting losers and winners fighting winners.

“There is such a great combination of fights and it hasn’t ever been so lively and that is because of the involvement of Riyadh Season.”

It seems highly unlikely that Berlanga will be in the mix to face Joshua next, but you have to admire his confidence.

The 27-year-old dropped a unanimous decision to Canelo Alvarez earlier this month in a unified super-middleweight title fight and is already chasing the biggest fights – even if most of them are unobtainable at this time.
