Arsenal head into the North London Derby looking to close the gap on the Premier League leaders Liverpool to just four points following the Reds’ dropping of points at Nottingham Forest last night.
Mikel Arteta’s side will have to overturn a three-match winless run to do so though, having been held to a 1-1 draw at Brighton in their most recent league outing before losing at home to each of Newcastle and Manchester United in the domestic cups.
The Gunners will move up to outright second place with a victory which would see them pull two points clear of Forest in the top three, and head into tonight’s derby unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League matches.
Tottenham survived an almighty scare on Sunday afternoon as they were forced into extra time by a non-league Tamworth side who play their domestic football in the fifth division, eventually winning 3-0 in extra time.
The win made it back to back victories for Ange Postecoglou’s side though having beaten Liverpool 1-0 in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi final, but have struggled in the Premier League of late, winning only one of their last eight games in the competition.
Spurs’ less-than-ideal form of the league has seen them drop out of the top half into 13th place following last night’s results, four points shy of the top 10 and only three ahead of 15th placed Crystal Palace, meaning defeat could leave them in a bad place tonight.
Arsenal are unbeaten in their last six North London derbies, winning five of them, while the Tottenham are winless in their last 14 league visits to the Emirates dating all the way back to 2010.
