Aston Villa v Bournemouth predictions
Aston Villa continued their perfect record in their first Champions League campaign in 42 years on Tuesday night with a 2-0 win over Bologna, giving them maximum points from their opening three matches of the competition, also keeping three clean sheats.
Unai Emery’s side now have to turn their attention back to domestic matters as they prepare for the visit of Bournemouth to the West Midlands, with the Spaniard’s side looking to make it three wins in a row having also ended Fulham’s unbeaten home record last weekend.
The Villans head into the weekend unbeaten in their last 10 matches in all competitions, a run in which they’ve won eight games which leaves them fourth in the Premier League table, level on points with Arsenal and just four points off the league leaders Liverpool.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, are also full of confidence ahead of this weekend’s clash after becoming the first time in any competition this season to get the better of Arsenal last time out, earning a 2-0 win over the title challengers.
Andoni Iraola’s side moved up to 11th in the Premier League table after their victory on Saturday evening but are only three points off the top six, and will be eyeing a place in the top half as they bid for a victory which would leave them having won three of their last four games.
The Cherries have struggled somewhat on the road this season with just one win in their five away games so far, but will fancy themselves to upset the odds on Saturday afternoon and string together a set of good results as they bid to maintain their climb up the table.
Aston Villa have taken seven points from their last three games against Bournemouth having lost of their previous four, with Emery having five of his six games managed against Bournemouth and three of the four he’s managed against compatriot Iraola.
Villa will be in confident mood and their superior quality should shine through on Saturday afternoon as they seek to keep up the pressure on the Premier League’s top three, while Bournemouth’s away record leaves a little to be desired. I predict a 2-0 Villa victory.
Aston Villa v Bournemouth betting tips
Jhon Duran received just his start of the season in Tuesday night’s victory over Bologna, and rewarded his manager with his seventh goal of the season, pulling him two goals clear of teammate Ollie Watkins as Villa’s leading goal scorer this campaign.
Watkins starting on the bench may imply he’ll start Saturday’s game, but Duran’s record off the bench this season has been sublime, with five of the Colombian’s goals coming as a substitute so far.
Bournemouth have lost each of their last two away games without scoring, while Aston Villa have kept clean sheets in each of their last three games at Villa Park, all coming against top opposition in the shape of Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Bologna.
