Aston Villa vs Tottenham predictions
Only once since Wigan Athletic’s triumph in 2013 has a team other than Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City or Liverpool won the FA Cup.
The sole exception was Leicester City, who beat Chelsea in the 2021 final. Yet the trend is clear: English football’s biggest cup competition is increasingly being dominated by what we could call the ‘big five’.
If the winner of this year’s tournament is to come from outside that quintet (antrd Arsenal have already bitten the dust), it could be one of Aston Villa or Tottenham Hotspur.
A trophy would be most welcome at either club. Villa have not lifted a major piece of silverware since 1996. Spurs have now gone 17 years without winning anything, as supporters of their rivals are never shy to remind them.
These are two of the biggest clubs in the English game and a trophy is long overdue for both of them.
The incentive to go deep in the competition is only strengthened by Villa and Tottenham’s difficulties in the Premier League this season.
To be clear, Villa are hardly having a disastrous league campaign. They are only four points adrift of fifth place, which should be enough for Champions League qualification this year.
However, Unai Emery’s side have been inconsistent. They have struggled to pick up wins in the Premier League game immediately following their Champions League assignments. With good reason, Europe appears to be their primary focus this season.
As for Tottenham, they are in danger of a worst Premier League finish since at least 2003/04, when a side led by Glenn Hoddle and then David Pleat came 14th. That is the position they currently occupy in the table with 14 rounds of fixtures remaining.
Needless to say, a top-five finish is already beyond Tottenham. Ange Postecoglou’s fate will likely be decided by how his team fares in knockout competition, namely the Europa League and FA Cup. Spurs were eliminated from the EFL Cup by Liverpool on Thursday night.
The fans have not turned on Postecoglou yet, but a defeat here would leave him under huge pressure. This is a massive game for the Australian, who insisted in September that he “always” wins something in his second season at a club.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham betting tips
Only one of Aston Villa or Tottenham Hotspur can advance to the fifth round of the FA Cup – which will it be?
Aston Villa to win
The first thing to check when getting ready to place a bet on a game involving Aston Villa is the venue.
Emery’s side are a force to be reckoned with in front of their own fans. Only Arsenal, Liverpool and Nottingham Forest have collected more points from Premier League home games since the start of the season.

It is a different story on the road, with Villa ranking a lowly 11th in the away table. They have lost eight of their last 11 matches at opposition grounds in all competitions.
Villa have also had more time to prepare for this match. They were not in action in midweek, whereas Tottenham played Liverpool as recently as Thursday night.
Spurs won their previous trip to Villa Park 4-0, but Emery’s men can get revenge on Sunday.

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals
Tottenham’s 2-0 victory over Brentford last weekend was uncharacteristically uneventful. Postecoglou’s side usually deliver unrivalled entertainment, for better or worse.
Normal service is likely to be resumed here. Even if Micky van de Ven is fit to start, Tottenham’s defence will be vulnerable. Villa have the tools to take advantage of any gaps that open up.
In fairness to Spurs, they invariably pack a punch going forward. This has been a miserable Premier League campaign overall, but Postecoglou’s men still rank joint-third for goals, fifth for shots and fifth for shots on target.
Villa are missing key men at the back, so they could opt to fight fire with fire. It is hard to see either team keeping a clean sheet.
On top of that, note that nine of Tottenham’s last 11 matches have featured three goals or more.

Morgan Rogers to score any time
Aston Villa opted to cash in on Jhon Duran last month, selling the Colombia international to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr for an initial £64m.
Despite Duran’s strong start to the season and Ollie Watkins’ consistent excellence, Emery decided he could not accommodate both players in the same starting XI.
A big reason for that is Morgan Rogers. The former Manchester City attacking midfielder is a hugely exciting prospect, but it would have been difficult to squeeze him into the same team as two strikers.
Rogers is enjoying a terrific campaign. His ball-carrying ability is hugely impressive and his end product in the final third has improved immensely.
Rogers is into double figures for goals already and he scored in Villa’s most recent game against Tottenham too.
Tip Morgan Rogers to score any time at 15/8 with Betfred
