Atalanta vs Juventus predictions

After an extraordinary 11-game winning streak between early October and Christmas, Atalanta have now drawn back-to-back matches in Serie A.

First they were held to a 1-1 draw by Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in their final outing of 2024, before Atalanta began the new year with a disappointing 0-0 stalemate against Udinese.

Still, it is hard to be too downhearted when you consider Atalanta are currently on a 14-game unbeaten streak in the league. Make no mistake: Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are bona fide title contenders.

To merely be in the conversation is an achievement in itself for Atalanta, a club that has never won a scudetto before. They did triumph in the Europa League last season, though, beating Bayer Leverkusen comprehensively in the final.

Atalanta have long punched above their weight under Gasperini, but this might just be their best side yet. There is greater depth than previous iterations and that trophy-winning experience from last year has given Atalanta an extra dose of steeliness – not to mention genuine belief that they can compete for silverware.

Juventus are easily the most successful club in the history of Italian domestic football, but they are not the country’s dominant force right now.

The Bianconeri, a club whose motto confidently declares that “winning is the only thing that counts”, have not won the title since 2020. They will not triumph this season either.

Indeed, Juventus have fallen too far behind already. They trail Napoli by 14 points with half of the campaign having elapsed.

Thiago Motta’s men must now focus their attention on qualifying for the Champions League. That will not necessarily be straightforward.

Serie A had five qualification berths in 2023/24, but their allocation is likely to drop back down to four this time around. Napoli, Inter and Atalanta look nailed-on for the top three, thus potentially leaving just one place for Juventus, Lazio, Fiorentina and AC Milan to fight over.

Remarkably, Juve remain unbeaten after 19 league games. However, an astonishing 12 of those have been draws (no other Serie A side is into double figures for tied matches). Thiago Motta’s side need to start getting more wins on the board soon.

Atalanta vs Juventus betting tips

Juventus travel to Atalanta for a game that could impact the title race and the fight for the top four.

Draw

Juventus were at it again at the weekend, drawing 1-1 with local rivals Torino to clock up a dozen deadlocked duels in 2024/25.

On the plus side, Thiago Motta’s side are very difficult to beat. They tend to dominate possession and thus protect themselves by keeping the ball away from their opponents for long periods.

On the other hand, Juventus are not winning enough games. They have triumphed in just seven so far, only one more than relegation candidates Hellas Verona.

Juve got their noses in front against Torino, as they have done on 12 occasions this term. But Saturday was the fifth time they have failed to win after drawing first blood.

For their part, Atalanta have drawn two games on the bounce and that could become three on Tuesday.

Under 2.5 goals

Juventus have the highest average possession in Serie A this season, narrowly ahead of Inter. But Thiago Motta’s side are way down in joint-ninth for shots per game.

That is where the problem lies. Juventus do not do enough with the ball. They need to find more of a cutting edge in the final third if they want to qualify for the Champions League.

Atalanta certainly do not have that problem. On their day Gasperini’s side are electric in attack. Atalanta can overwhelm anyone in the division when everything clicks.

Recently, though, la Dea have looked a little tired both mentally and physically, scoring only one goal in their last two matches.

All things considered, goals could be at a premium in Bergamo this week.

Ademola Lookman to score any time

Ademola Lookman was disappointed when a proposed move to Paris Saint-Germain fell through last summer.

It is to the Nigeria international’s credit that he has knuckled down since then rather than sulking.

Lookman, who scored a brilliant hat-trick in the Europa League final last year, needs just one more strike to reach double figures in Serie A for 2024/25.

He is on course for this to be his best ever scoring season, with Lookman quickly establishing himself as one of Europe’s most dangerous forwards.

If the 27-year-old is fit and focused on Tuesday, Juventus will struggle to handle him. Lookman can add his name to the scoresheet against Thiago Motta’s charges.
