Week 2 of the Autumn Internationals had plenty of drama including a shock for Ireland and a distinct sense of deja vu for England and Wales.

Let’s see how the bookies rate the teams in this third weekend of action and where the money should go.

Here are our predictions and odds from top rated rugby betting sites:

Autumn Internationals Rugby Week 3 predictions

In one sense, it is a sign of just what a world foce Ireland have become that the nation felt so disappointed by a 23-13 defeat by the All Blacks and they will be desperate to right the ship this Friday against Argentina.

For England there was yet another narrow defeat, this time to their bitter rivals Australia, while Warren Gatland’s second term in charge of Wales continued to leave the rugby public underwhelmed with a loss to Fiji.

We had a great second week with three winners from four selections at 11/5, 23/10 and 10/11.

🏉 Ireland vs Argentina

Ireland’s coach Andy Farrell did not mince his words when announcing the team for this week’s visit of the Pumas saying that some of those selected were “lucky” to be handed another green jersey.

He was also looking on the bright side adding: “Pressure concentrates the mind, you see where your character’s at. We want to test ourselves because we feel we let a few people down last week.”

History supports the Irish because they have won 13 of the 19 test matches the two have played and all 10 on home soil.

Ireland vs Argentina odds

Here are the latest match odds for Ireland v Argentina from Betfred.

  • Ireland: 2/11
  • Draw: 25/1
  • Argentina: 4/1

Argentina to win

The cautious might prefer the handicap but we’re going to be courageous and take on the Irish with the in-form Pumas. Over the summer they defeated the All Blacks in New Zealand, South Africa at home and put 67 points on the board when thrashing Australia.

Last week they warmed up for this clash with a 50-18 win in Italy. Their coach Felipe Contepomi spent six years playing at Leinster and will be desperate to taste victory in front of old friends. As we noted with two winning bets last week, it is the value that appeals. Ireland are deserved favourites but this price is too big.

🏉 England vs South Africa

England’s continuing inability to close out victories infuriated the fans at Twickenham and also ex-players in the media who have suggested everything from changes in tactics to change in players to even changes in authority.

The pressure won’t decrease this week with the arrival of the World Cup holders whose tactic of throwing on seven substitues in one go to replace almost the entire scrum has been a red hot topic all week. ‘The Bomb Squad’ as the seven are known are admired by some, feared by all, and some have even said the tactic is “arrogant”.

England vs South Africa odds

Here are the latest match odds for England v South Africa from Betfred.

  • England: 23/10
  • Draw: 22/1
  • South Africa: 1/3

England/South Africa HT/FT double

England did thrash Japan in the summer but of their other 13 most recent matches all had no more than nine points in it and 12 of them just seven. In other words the matches are tight. Very tight. Can that continue? Sooner or later the dam is surely going to burst but in which direction?

Marcus Smith is in excellent form at the moment and he could lead England to another bold start but the arrival of ‘The Bomb Squad’ cannot be overlooked because they have the edge on England’s reserve forwards. Take England to lead at half-time and the Springboks to turn it around in the second half.

Choose England/South Africa HT/FT double at 11/2 with bet365

🏉 France vs New Zealand

The books are hesitant to price up Scotland’s match against Portugal (don’t overlook the visitors who impressed in the World Cup) and also a tantalising clash between Italy and Georgia (the latter will be desperate to win and drop another hint that they should replace the Azzuri in the Six Nations).

So we’ll focus on the attractive Saturday evening option of Les Bleus versus the All Blacks. The French have lost their star flanker Francois Cros but superstar Antoine Dupont has returned to the full game after his spell playing Sevens in preparation for an ultimately successful quest for Olympic gold. The All Blacks will be seeking to build on victories over England and Ireland this autumn.

France vs New Zealand odds

Here are the latest match odds for France v New Zealand from Betfred.

  • France: 8/11
  • Draw: 20/1
  • New Zealand: 6/5

France/France HT/FT double

The French are in a neat spell of form in this match-up. They won 40-25 in Stade de France three years ago and backed that up with a superb 27-13 victory in last year’s World Cup.

Fired by a passionate crowd they like to go big in the early stages and they can take advantage of an All Black set-up that was good enough to better the English and Irish, but which is yet to quite fire under the new coaching team.

Pick France/France HT/FT double at 6/5 with Betway

🏉 Wales vs Australia

Warren Gatland is cutting an unhappy figure at the moment. The New Zealander was a hero to Welsh fans during his first period as coach but this second stretch has, even he admitted this week, “been painful”.

He’s been unlucky. The playing reserves are not what they were in that first term and he’s also had to cope with injuries. But after last week’s defeat to Fiji he was hurt by criticism from his former players, cried “write what you want” at reporters, and talked of mysterious media narratives that were twisting results. The pressure is becoming intense.

Wales vs Australia odds

Here are the latest match odds for Wales v Australia from Betfred.

  • Wales: 13/8
  • Draw: 20/1
  • Australia: 1/2

Australia (-5.5) to win the handicap

Two months ago the Welsh might have viewed the opening two games of the autumn as great opportunities. They would have expected to beat Fiji and knew that the Aussies were in flux. But slowly the Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt has built a new crop of talent and the thrilling arrival of last week’s debutant Joseph Suaalii promises further success.

They are celebrating 40 years since the famous Grand Slam team of 1984 and this team might yet struggle to repeat that feat but this should be a hurdle they clear. Last week Wales suffered a record 10th test defeat in a row, the pain is likely to increase and the Aussies can cover this handicap in style.

Tip Australia (-5.5) to win the handicap at 10/11 with bet365
