It’s the penultimate week of the Autumn Internationals, the final one with a full schedule, and the northern hemisphere teams are in desperate need of a boost after a chastening month of action.

Let’s see how the bookies rate the teams in this fourth weekend of action and where the money should go.

Here are our predictions and odds from top rated rugby betting sites:

Autumn Internationals Rugby Week 4 predictions

Wales are at the lowest point having suffered an unprecedented 11th consecutive defeat last week and, as an extra indignity, it came courtesy of a record walloping by the Wallabies.

England are far more competitive than the Welsh but their lack any kind of killer instinct is testing the patience of their fans and ex-players.

Scotland have beaten Tier 2 opposition this month but continue to struggle against Tier 1 teams while even Irish coach Andy Farrell has been bemoaning a lack of composure from his team.

🏉 France vs Argentina

This should be a cracking introduction to the weekend because these two teams rarely provide anything other than a heavyweight contest with their big packs going head on and their almost-as-big backs providing a powerful second wave.

The French squeezed past New Zealand last weekend while the Pumas were victorious over the All Blacks during the summer. Thos two results emphasis how tight this match up could be.

France vs Argentina odds

Here are the latest match odds for France vs Argentina from bet365.

  • Ireland: 2/11
  • Draw: 25/1
  • Argentina: 4/1

Argentina to win

History backs up the idea that this is a tight contest. The head-to-head count over the last 20 matches is 10 apiece but within that spell the French hold a 6-4 advantage on home soil. They have also won seven of the last 10 matches so the tide has turned somewhat.

On the other hand, when they shared the summer series in Argentina 1-1 it was a first clash in three years – and Argentina are playing their best rugby since the mid-2000s when they had something of a hold on the French. This clash always inspires extra motivation in the Pumas and they’re the value play. (As with last week the cautious punter might prefer the handicap.)

Bet on Argentina to win at 10/3 with Betfred

🏉 Ireland vs Fiji

It’s been a frustrating few weeks for the Irish. They misfired against New Zealand losing 13-23 then got off to a great start against Argentina last week before needing to complete a hard fought 22-19 victory.

This week gives them a fine opportunity to establish a forward base, then stretch the legs of the backs and rack up the points. In that sense it could be perfectly timed. But the Fijians will be keen to booby trap the Irish and capitalise on any home team urgency to get on the front foot.

Ireland vs Fiji odds

Here are the latest match odds for Ireland v Fiji from bet365.

  • Ireland: 1/25
  • Draw: 50/1
  • Fiji: 9/1

Ireland (-20.5pts) to win on the Handicap

This Irish set-up is strong but also asks tough questions of itself. They will have spent the week honing their set plays and game in order to right the wrongs of the last fortnight.

Fiji provide an undoubted threat but their discipline has been poor on the tour and the Irish should be able to take advantage in ways that the Welsh didn’t and the Scottish could have done better.

Choose Ireland (-20.5pts) to win on the Handicap at 10/11 with bet365

🏉 Wales vs South Africa

The angst that is flowing through the valleys right now is nothing new – there have been many black times in Welsh rugby’s history. But the national team is really ailing at the moment and the last thing it needs is to host the brutal World Cup holders who are likely to enjoy the prospect of steam-rollering their opposition.

Another concern is that, for all the pearl clutching about Warren Gatland’s coaching, he’s far from the worst man for the job and his biggest problem is a lack of talent and options following retirements, injuries and systemic failings.

Wales vs South Africa odds

Here are the latest match odds for Wales v South Africa from bet365.

  • Wales: 16/1
  • Draw: 50/1
  • South Africa: 1/100

South Africa (-26.5pts) to win on the handicap

In the summer the Welsh lost to Australia by nine and eight points. Last week, with the home team diminished in confidence, form and playing strength, the Wallabies won by by 32 points.

The Welsh also travelled to South Africa in the summer and lost by 28 points. If this week’s scoreline extrapolates from those numbers it could get ugly – and the Springboks are more like to be ruthless than sympathetic to theis host’s plight.

Pick South Africa (-26.5pts) to win on the handicap at 10/11 with Betway

🏉 Scotland vs Australia

This is a big game for the Scottish. They have won six of their last seven matches but all that half dozen were against less than elite opposition. They are indisputably better than that quality of side but in the last two years they have beaten only Italy and Wales among the top rank of teams.

They also haven’t defeated one of the big southern hemisphere teams since 2021. The good news is that that win came against Australia. The flipside is that the Wallabies are flying high this autumn.

Scotland vs Australia odds

Here are the latest match odds for Scotland v Australia from bet365.

  • Scotland: 4/7
  • Draw: 20/1
  • Australia: 6/4

Australia to win

Scotland will fancy their chances and rightly, but this is another case of the price being wrong. Being able to back a buoyant Australia side, one chasing a repeat of the famous 1984 Grand Slam, against a Scottish team that struggles against top quality teams at odds against is the value pick.

Tip Australia to win at 7/5 with Betway

England vs Japan

There are two fascinating threads to consider here. The first is that England’s controversial previous coach Eddie Jones is now in charge of Japan so he has a great chance to add to the woes of his previous employers and has promised a super-fast approach. The other is more simplistic: can England finally stop faffing about and wrap up a win without fretting their way through the final quarter? This is a golden opportunity, but if they don’t win expect the background muttering to turn into calls for significant changes.

  • England: 1/250
  • Draw: 66/1
  • Japan: 25/1
