Match Result
Uganda U-19 128/6
Namibia U-19 all out
Uganda won by 49 runs
The Baby Victoria Pearls got off the mark at the U-19 World Cup Qualifiers with a morale-boosting win against Namibia.
Uganda won the toss and elected to bat and despite a not slow start, the middle order led by Malisa Ariokot (27) and Asumin Akurut (21) settled the nerves to help Uganda finish on 128/6 in their 20 overs.
Namibia came out swinging in the run chase and despite losing wickets they kept up with the required rate. All Rounder Patricia Timong (3/12) was the pick of the bowlers and earned the Player of the Match award. However, the fielding of Malisa Ariokot had a big influence on the game, she took three wonderful running catches on the boundary that turned the game in favour of Uganda.
The win will give Uganda the confidence in their next encounters in Group A against hosts Rwanda and Kenya. The batting that has been a perennial problem for Uganda looked steady and scored at a good rate against a quality attack.
Uganda will take on Kenya tomorrow morning at the IPRC ground. Kenya lost their opening game to Rwanda by a country mile and they will be looking to make amends against an opponent high on confidence.
