Two European giants with 11-Champions League titles between them come to blows in Barcelona on Wednesday night in one of the standout clashes across the entire league phase.

Barcelona head into the clash as slight favourites ahead of this week’s clash and will be aided by their home advantage, though are still playing home games away from Camp Nou while it’s being renovated.

Hansi Flick took over from Xavi as the new Barcelona manager in the summer, the German having previously enjoyed huge success while in change of Bayern Munich, the Champions League being one of six trophies he won in his first year, which included a famous 8-2 win over Barcelona in the quarter final.

Now calling the Spanish city ‘home’, Flick has hit the ground running in La Liga, winning nine of his first 10 league games in charge, with their 5-1 win over Sevilla on Sunday night leaving them three points clear at the top of the table with a very healthy goal difference.

The Catalan side head into Wednesday’s match with a 100% record at home in all competitions this season, scoring 20 goals in their five matches at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, and head into the game on a three match win streak.

Flick’s old side, Bayern Munich, are also sitting pretty at the top of the table in their respective league in a very tight title battle in the Bundesliga with just four point separating the top seven.

Now managed by former Burnley boss Vincent Kompany, the German side lead Leipzig at the top of the table on goal difference, aided by a 4-0 win over Stuttgart on the weekend which ended a three-match winless run.

Both teams currently sit on three points from two matches in the Champions League, Barcelona having lost at Monaco on matchday one before beating Young Boys 5-0 at home, while Bayern put nine past Dinamo Zagreb in a 9-2 win before losing 1-0 at Aston Villa.

Bayern Munich have won each of the last six matches between the two sides, with Barcelona having won just one of the last 10, but this week’s match has the Spanish side heading in as favourites and could see them end their losing run against the German giants.
