Barcelona secured their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League in midweek and they now turn their attention back to the La Liga title race. Barca hold a four-point lead over Real Madrid at present.

Will they take another step closer to the championship crown, or can Celta Vigo pull off a major shock this weekend?

Barcelona vs Celta Vigo predictions

It was not entirely plain sailing for Barcelona last time out, but in the end they got the job done.

Hansi Flick’s team arrived at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday with a 4-0 aggregate advantage over Borussia Dortmund. Barring an extraordinary collapse, they were heading through to the semi-finals.

Dortmund needed a miracle in the second leg. They did not get one, but an excellent performance on the night brought them a 3-1 victory.

Barcelona were not at their best in Germany. Perhaps they were guilty of resting on their laurels after such a handsome win in the first game, but Flick will have seen plenty he did not like.

The manager, though, was keen to accentuate the positives after watching his team advance to the last four.

“We are in the semi-finals,” he said afterwards. “They have a great team and made life very difficult for us, but we’re through to the next round and that’s what counts.

“We didn’t play at our best today but that was also down to Dortmund, who did really well. What the team has achieved in recent weeks is phenomenal. We’re now one step further, but we’re still a long way from the end.”

Now is not the time to look ahead, either to the Champions League semi-finals or to the Copa del Rey final next weekend.

Barcelona are competing on three fronts and that means they must focus on the next game and the next game alone.

A four-point lead at the top of La Liga looks comfortable, but one slip-up would suddenly open the door to Real Madrid. On the other hand, a victory over Celta Vigo on Saturday would temporarily extend Barca’s advantage to seven points, putting Madrid under pressure to respond.

Barcelona have been largely excellent in the league over the last few months. They have taken 31 points from the last 33 available, with a 1-1 draw with Real Betis earlier in April the only blot on their copybook in the last three months.

As well as leading on points, Barcelona also have the edge over Madrid on goal difference and the all-important head-to-head record.

The bookies have them down as clear favourites to win the title, but Barcelona must not get ahead of themselves.

Barcelona vs Celta Vigo betting tips

Barcelona are ready to do battle with Celta Vigo in an important La Liga fixture for both teams.

Barcelona to win and both teams to score

Celta Vigo are chasing a European spot in the final few weeks of the La Liga campaign.

Spain is well positioned to get an extra Champions League berth, so sixth and seventh would be Europa League places and the eighth-placed team would go forward to the Conference League.

Celta sit seventh at the moment, although things are tight: Osasuna in 11th are only four points behind them.

Celta lost 2-0 to Espanyol last weekend, but that was the first time in 14 league games that they failed to score.

Barcelona should prove too strong for Claudio Giraldez’s boys, but a clean sheet could be beyond them.

Barcelona to score in both halves

Barcelona only made the net bulge once against Borussia Dortmund, but they have generally been free-scoring throughout 2024/25.

Their 31 La Liga games have yielded 84 goals, which works out at an impressive average of 2.71 per match. Barca are on course to score 103 times this term.

Flick’s team are the league’s highest scorers in both the first half and the second half. They have scored either side of the interval on 14 occasions.

We like their chances of doing so again here. Celta Vigo can be a tough nut to crack, but it will be tough for them to halt Barcelona in full flow.

Ferran Torres to score any time

Although he has been a back-up player for most of the campaign, Ferran Torres is Barcelona’s third-highest scorer so far.

Only Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha have beaten opposition goalkeepers more often than the former Manchester City forward.

Torres has scored 16 goals in all competitions, nine of which have come in La Liga. He will be keen to reach double figures as soon as possible.

There is a decent chance the Spain international will start on Saturday. Torres’ versatility makes him a good rotation option and Flick will probably make use of him here.

If he does get substantial minutes on the pitch, Torres can find the net.
