Barcelona vs Sevilla predictions

Despite a recent injury list that would have tested the squad depth of the very best, Barcelona holds a three-point lead at the top of Spain’s La Liga over their main rivals Real Madrid.

On Sunday, Barca will very likely be looking to consolidate their position at the top.

Madrid plays first. They are away to Celta Vigo on Saturday. And this is a very open Celta side, who will trouble Madrid, but also offer up plenty of chances at the other end. The result looks inevitable as we all know who has the better strikers!

So when Barca kicks off, Real are likely to have joined them at the top of the table on 24 points. Barca hold a plus six goal advantage over their rivals, so they should at the very least retain the top spot on goal difference.

But with the first El Clasico of the season taking place the following weekend (in Madrid), the Catalans know they can’t afford any slips against Sevilla on Sunday.

Furthermore, Barca head coach Hansi Flick also has an encounter with his former Bayern Munich team in the Champions League to look forward to. The two teams meet at Barca’s temporary Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys home on Wednesday.

This is a huge week of football for Barcelona. If it goes wrong, all their early season good work could quickly become undone.

Sevilla suffered a poor campaign in 2023/24, finishing down in 14th place in the La Liga table.

This was their worst finish since relegation in 2000. The season was a disaster with Los Nervionenses working their way through three managers – Jose Luis Mendilibar, Diego Alonso and Quique Sanchez Flores.

The current incarnation of the club is a far cry from the glory days of Unai Emery. That said, they did win the 2023 Europa League final on penalties against Roma. So to have fallen so far in such a short space of time will be alarming to the club’s fans.

Now under the guidance of Garcia Pimienta, Sevilla have 12 points from their nine La Liga fixtures this term. They sit 12th in the table having won three, drawn three and lost three.

Sevilla struggled at the start of the season, but their form has picked up in recent weeks.

Pimienta’s team has picked up seven points from their last three matches and have only lost one in their last five.

A visit to top of the table Barcelona will be a totally different challenge. And one that could put an end to their recent mini-revival.

Barcelona vs Sevilla betting tips

Barcelona are without Ferran Torres, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Marc Bernal, Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo. Back in training and possibly available are Gavi, Fermin Lopez and Dani Olmo.

Although, with Bayern and Real Madrid on the horizon, they might not be risked.

Even with their injury list, Barca should have too much for this Sevilla side.

Barcelona has won the five most recent encounters between the two teams, and we expect to see them make that six on Sunday.

Both teams to score and Barcelona to win

Barcelona are just 32/100 to win in the match result market.

Sevilla has scored in their last five La Liga matches. And Barcelona has conceded in three of their last five domestic fixtures.

With one eye possibly on their next two upcoming fixtures, Barcelona might be slightly vulnerable on Sunday. But at the same time, three points are very important.

Taking their injury list into account, we can see Barca conceding against Sevilla. A win for the Catalans and both teams to score is a far more inviting bet at 6/4 than just backing a Barca win at 32/100.

Over 4.5 cards

Sevilla has picked four red cards in La Liga already this season. They also have over 20 yellows.

Discipline is clearly a problem for Garcia Pimienta’s team.

In the betting to pick up the most yellow cards, Barca is 3/1, equal cards is 15/4, and Sevilla is 52/100 to get more.

Sevilla are also 21/20 to pick up over 2.5 cards and 4/6 for under.

Barcelona are no saints. They know how to push the boundaries, and they also have one or two hotheads in their ranks.

Rather than backing Sevilla to pick up more cards at such short odds, we are backing over 4.5 cards to be shown in the match at appealing odds of 23/20.

Raphinha to score anytime

The cat is now well and truly out of the bag on this bet.

Raphinha has been in brilliant form for Barcelona, scoring five goals in eight La Liga matches this season.

Furthermore, the 27-year-old also bagged a brace (both from the spot) for Brazil in their recent 4-0 World Cup qualifier win over Peru.

Robert Lewandowski is just 7/10 to score against Sevilla. With Raphinha on fire at the moment and growing in stature every week, a wager on the Brazilian to add to his tally at 6/5 looks the better value bet.
