Bayern Munich vs Benfica predictions
It has been an interesting start to the season for Bayern Munich. We are now three months into 2024/25, but it is still hard to work this team out.
On the one hand, Bayern are now firmly established as strong favourites to regain the Bundesliga title they lost to Bayer Leverkusen last term.
Vincent Kompany’s team are already seven points clear of Leverkusen after a strong set of results to date. Bayern have dropped only four points up to now, and two of those came in a 1-1 draw with the champions.
Their eight top-flight matches to date have yielded a remarkable 32 goals – an average of over 3.5 per game. That is some going even for a team with Bayern’s inherent advantages over their domestic rivals.
Yet a glance at the Bundesliga table does not tell the full story, not least because Bayern have been much less impressive in the Champions League.
Things started brilliantly with a crushing 9-2 triumph over Dinamo Zagreb, but the mood has dampened after back-to-back losses to Aston Villa (0-1) and Barcelona (1-4).
Those two defeats mean Bayern have little margin for error in their remaining five matches, starting with Wednesday’s meeting with Benfica.
The setbacks against Villa and Barcelona also show that, while Bayern are able to beat up lesser opponents domestically, they still have work to do when facing top-tier opposition on the continent.
Perhaps the simplest conclusion to draw at this stage is that Bayern remain a work in progress. That is understandable when you consider Kompany is just a few months into his role and that he took over a team which finished a lowly third in the Bundesliga last time out.
One thing is for sure: despite their impressive performances in the Bundesliga, Bayern will need to up their game in the Champions League if they want to get their hands on the trophy. There is plenty of time to do just that, but it is vital that they return to winning ways when Benfica head to Germany this week.
The Portuguese outfit are capable of giving Bayern a game here, so this could be one of the most interesting match-ups of matchday four.
Bayern Munich vs Benfica betting tips
Bayern Munich need to get another win on the board in the Champions League when Benfica head to Germany.
Bayern Munich to win and over 3.5 goals
Goals have been a guarantee in every game Bayern Munich have played so far this season.
On the plus side, an attack led by Harry Kane that also features Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry (with Kingsley Coman, Thomas Muller and Leroy Sane waiting in the wings) is up there with the very best around right now.
Bayern demonstrated what they can do when things click in the final third against an admittedly weak Dinamo Zagreb team on matchday one.

But there are legitimate question marks over the defence and midfield, so Benfica should be able to fashion their fair share of opportunities on Wednesday too.
With home advantage behind them, Bayern should get the job done. Meanwhile, at least four goals being scored looks very probable.
Back Bayern Munich to win and over 3.5 goals at 15/13 with VBET
Bayern Munich to score in both halves
Benfica suffered a surprise 3-1 home loss to Feyenoord on matchday three, but they had beaten Red Star Belgrade and Atletico Madrid before that.
That means Wednesday’s clash with Bayern Munich is something of a free hit for Bruno Lage’s side, who would consider a point to be a wonderful outcome.
Keeping the back door shut against Kane and co. will not be easy in the slightest, however.
Bayern’s five games at the Allianz Arena so far this season have produced 19 goals for the hosts, who have scored either side of the interval in three of their last four Bundesliga matches at any ground.
For all their quality, Benfica will struggle to keep Kompany’s attack quiet.

Jamal Musiala to score any time
Musiala has been in the news a lot in recent weeks.
With his current contract due to expire in 2026, Bayern Munich are desperately trying to persuade the attacking midfielder to put pen to paper on fresh terms.
If he has not done so before next summer, Bayern will have to cash in on the Germany international or risk losing him for free.
Every team in the world would welcome Musiala into their squad. For now, though, the player will be fully focused on Benfica.
Having scored four goals in his last three outings, Musiala is a good pick in this market.
