Bayern Munich vs Stuttgart predictions

The 2024/25 Bundesliga season resumes this weekend with two of last season’s top three set to go head-to-head at the Allianz Arena.

For the first time since 2010/11, Bayern finished outside the top two in the Bundesliga last term. Not only did they miss out on the title to Bayer Leverkusen, they were also bumped down to third place by Stuttgart.

That was a phenomenal achievement from Sebastian Hoeness’ charges – and one that hardly anyone saw coming.

The year before, Stuttgart were almost demoted to the second tier. They were involved in the relegation play-offs that season after finishing 16th after 34 rounds of fixtures.

To finish second immediately after that was arguably just as good an accomplishment as Leverkusen’s unbeaten campaign.

After their third-place finish, Thomas Tuchel was let go as Bayern boss at the end of last season.

The search for a successor was not at all convincing. After being rejected by most of their top targets, Bayern eventually turned to Vincent Kompany, who had just overseen Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League.

It is still too early to judge the Belgian, but it is fair to say he has had a mixed start to his Bayern tenure. The Bavarians are top of the table as things stand, but they are only ahead of RB Leipzig on goal difference and Eintracht Frankfurt are just a point behind.

In the Champions League, meanwhile, Bayern demolished Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 on matchday one before going down 1-0 to Aston Villa in their last European encounter.

Immediately prior to the October international break, Bayern were involved in a 3-3 draw with Frankfurt. In many ways it summed up Kompany’s side: brilliant going forward but ropey at the back.

If Bayern are to reclaim the Bundesliga title and go deep in the Champions League, they will need to tighten up defensively.

As for Stuttgart, they are the underdogs for Saturday’s showdown but Hoeness and his players will not mind that one bit. Die Roten have continually shown over the last 14 months that it is never wise to write them off.

Bayern Munich vs Stuttgart betting tips

Bayern Munich and Stuttgart are ready to go at it after the October international break.

Bayern Munich to win and both teams to score

Bayern Munich’s matches so far this season have been extremely entertaining.

Against Dinamo Zagreb, Holstein Kiel (a 6-1 win) and Werder Bremen (5-0), Kompany’s team have showcased their attacking potency. All three of those teams were blown away by Bayern.

But in the aforementioned Frankfurt game earlier this month, as well as in a narrow 3-2 victory over Wolfsburg, the Bavarians have looked vulnerable at times.

Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano are both accomplished centre-backs, but they have not yet demonstrated that they can work as a partnership.

Stuttgart have scored in every game they have played in all competitions in 2024/25. They can do so again here, but it will be tough for them to avoid defeat at Bayern’s home.

Over 3.5 goals

Whenever one of Bayern Munich or Stuttgart are in action, it is well worth tuning in. Entertainment is seldom in short supply when these two teams are playing.

Bayern’s six matches up to now have yielded a total of 27 goals. Stuttgart’s six outings have produced 26 strikes. That is an average of 4.42 goals per game between them.

That bodes well for Saturday’s showdown. Stuttgart will employ a measured approach rather than taking excessive risks and leaving themselves exposed.

But they will certainly give it a go. Stuttgart beat Bayern 3-1 the last time the pair locked horns towards the end of last term.

Whatever the result, goals should be on the cards on Saturday. Given everything we know about Bayern and Stuttgart, it is difficult to imagine this one finishing 0-0 or 1-0.

Deniz Undav to score any time

Serhou Guirassy was Stuttgart’s main man last season. The Guinea international scored 28 goals in as many league appearances.

Had he been fit and available for the entire campaign, he might have challenged Harry Kane for the Golden Boot.

Stuttgart were forced to cash in on Guirassy when Borussia Dortmund came calling in the summer, but Deniz Undav has stepped up to fill his former team-mate’s boots.

Undav has scored six times in all competitions and he recently carried his form over to the international stage, bagging a brace as Germany beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-1.

Given Bayern Munich’s troubles at the back, Undav can add another goal to his tally this weekend.
