As much as I love a beer, I can be guilty of sticking to my favourites repeatedly.

Looking to break the habit, I turned to Beer52 to get me out of my comfort zone.

Founded in 2013, this unique delivery service offers monthly subscription boxes that include a selection of beers and snacks.

With themed choices, worldwide suppliers and unique flavours, Beer52 delivers directly to your doorstep.

In a mission to expand my beer taste palette, I sampled Beer52’s delivery service in January to see if A) it was worth the money and B) I could drink anything other than Guinness moving forward.

How I tested Beer52

To test Beer52, I got my hands on one of its monthly delivery boxes.

Paying attention to the value for money, quality of products, delivery, taste and more, I gave Beer52 a possible rating of 5 to determine whether or not this delivery service is worth it.

With eight beers and two snacks to get through, I spent several days testing and sampling each item.

Beer52 Review: Quick Summary

Beer52 offers an incredible variation of independent brewers[/caption]

Pros:

  • Great selection of beers
  • Efficient delivery
  • The magazine is a great touch
  • Good to discover new beers

Cons:

  • Small cans
  • Can take or leave the snacks
  • A tad expensive

Rating: 4/5

I sampled Beer52‘s monthly subscription box and was impressed by the convenience and choice on offer.

The month I tried had a Netherlands theme, meaning each of my eight additions was brewed in the country.

In the box I had a nice selection of both light and dark beers, and I was impressed with the taste and craftsmanship of most of them.

I did find that due to the 330ml size of the cans, a lot of Beer52’s offerings left me wanting more, so I’d have certainly preferred larger cans.

Another great addition to the box was the Ferment magazine.

This highlighted each beer’s origin, how it’s brewed, and more products on offer.

The snacks included failed to make an impression, but I didn’t mind too much since they felt like an added extra.

I particularly enjoyed the discovery aspect of Beer52, and even though I’m usually set in my ways, I found a number of beers that I would undoubtedly try again.

So, would I order Beer52 again? Yes!

To satisfy my cravings, I’d likely order one of the brand’s larger cases in the future.

But, if you’re simply looking to try something different, you can’t go wrong with the pack of eight.

I wasn’t too fussed about the snacks, but it’s a nice bonus[/caption]

As someone who loves a beer, I’ve got to say the idea of having a selection of new ones delivered to my door each month is quite an exciting prospect.

Having heard of Beer52 for some years now, I had some pretty high expectations, and I was hoping it would live up to them.

My delivery arrived quickly, and I was fairly surprised to see such a small box on my doorstep.

Inside, I found a total of eight beers nestled alongside two small snacks and a copy of Ferment magazine.

I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I was a little bit saddened to see the cans were only 330ml, but perhaps that just says more about me than it does the service.

Having selected the “mixed beers” option on the website, I had a nice mix of light and dark beers to sample, all from the Netherlands because of the monthly theme.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Ferment magazine and finding out about each brewery[/caption]

Wasting no time, I tucked into a couple on the first night and was happy with both the taste and variation on offer.

While I was drinking, I thoroughly enjoyed flicking through the Ferment magazine to read about each individual brewery, the brewers themselves and what other products they offer.

I also cracked open the snacks, but honestly, I wasn’t impressed by either the Pizzeria Bites or Roasted Fava Beans.

For the remainder of the week, I continued to sample some of the Netherlands’ finest beers, with a special mention going to the Uiltje Bird of Prey IPA and the Dutch Bargain Ripple Time pale ale.

I wasn’t too keen on the Vet & Lazy Oyster Mushroom Porter, but I’m not sure if the name and concept were the reason for that instead of the taste.

Frankly, Beer52 left me wanting more – and by more, I mean more liquid in each can.

One of the biggest issues I seemed to have was that, by the time I started enjoying a beer, it was basically empty due to the small can size.

If Beer52 were to switch to larger cans, I would wholeheartedly consider a permanent subscription in the future.

With that said, the service does offer larger deliveries with more cans, but the price can quickly jump up because of this.

Beer 52 review: Final verdict

After sampling Beer52 for the month, I would certainly recommend this service to any beer lovers.

Beer52 certainly isn’t catered towards people who like their drinks in abundance, but if you’re simply just looking to sample a fresh selection of beers each month, you can’t go wrong.

I also loved how easy and accessible to find out exactly what I was drinking thanks to the informative Ferment magazine.

The 330ml cans did leave a lot left to be desired at times, but I have since considered buying some of the brands I tried, just to sample them again.
