On an emotional night when Tim Patrick broke a 1,000-day drought with two touchdowns, the Lions emerged from Thursday Night Football with a hard-fought 34-31 home win over the Green Bay Packers that went down to the final second.

Campbell made the call of the night by deciding to go for it on fourth-and-1 at Green Bay’s 21-yard line with 43 seconds to go.

A failed conversion attempt would have given the Packers the ball with the game tied at 31.

Detroit answered the tension with a 7-yard run by David Montgomery, which set up a game-winning field goal by Jake Bates.

The Lions’ Ford Field erupted in a stadium-wide roar when Montgomery broke through the line, knowing that Campbell’s fourth-down gamble was about to give Detroit a 12-1 record.

The Lions made the playoffs and achieved their best start in franchise history on the same memorable night.

“We just find a way,” Campbell said. “It’s what we are.”

Detroit’s fiery coach saved his best for last.

After the Lions maintained their hold of the top seed in the NFC and continued to be a serious Super Bowl contender, Campbell united the Lions in their locker room and unleashed even more passion.

“I’m so freaking proud of you, man,” Campbell told his team.

It was so passionate that Detroit’s players couldn’t help smiling in pride[/caption]

“That’s the way to show up. You talk about pressure — we live in pressure. That’s where we freaking thrive.”

As Campbell’s voice became even more hoarse, some Detroit players smiled with pride in the background.

“You did it again,” he said. “It doesn’t matter who we’re playing, it doesn’t matter what’s going on. You always find a way to win.”

Then the head coach of a team that has completely changed its image spoke of destiny in 2024.

“This has been in the making,” Campbell said. “We were all supposed to be here together, man. We’re destined for this.”

Lions fans were beaming after Campbell’s gutsy fourth-down call and Bates’ game-winning field goal.

Then their chests were pounding after listening to the coach’s locker room speech.

“How am I supposed to sleep after watching this?” one fan tweeted.

“Biggest balls in the NFL,” a second fan posted.

“Love the way this dude coaches,” a third fan wrote.

“Just ran through my front door,” a fourth fan joked. “In a lot of pain.”

Even the NFL got in on the Campbell love.

“Brick walls beware,” the league’s official account tweeted.

Campbell will have to be even better on December 15 for the Lions’ next game.

Detroit hosts Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, in a potential Super Bowl preview.

The cheapest ticket on the secondary market was $337 on Friday morning.
