Uganda’s representatives at the first edition of the CAF U-17 Girls Integrated football tournament (GIFT) Boni Consili Girls Vocational School will face opponents from Tanzania, Burundi and Somalia.
Boni Consili Girls Vocational School was drawn in group B; and shall face Tanzania’s TDS Girls, Aigle Noir from Burundi and Somalia’s Hilaad.
Group A has JKT Queens (Tanzania), City Lights FA (South Sudan), B.D Kenema (Ethiopia) and K.A.S (Kenya).
The confirmation came after the draw conducted on Saturday, 4th January 2025.
The inaugural CAF U-17 Girls Integrated Football Tournament (GIFT) will take place at the Azam Sports Complex in Dar-es-Salaam city (7th to 18th January 2025).
Fixtures:
Boni Consilli Girls Vocational team opens up against TDS (Tanzania) on Wednesday, 8th January 2025
They will rest on 9th and 10th January 2025 before resuming on Saturday, 11th January 2025 against Hilaad (Somalia) and will complete their group games on Tuesday, 14th January 2025, against Aigle Noir from Burundi.
The winner of the respective groups will then face off in the final on Saturday, 18th January 2025.
Boni Consilli Girls Vocational team has been in residential camp at Old Kampala Secondary School and played their final build up against Kawempe Muslim SS at the Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo war memorial grounds in Kampala.
Boni Consilli Girls Vocational team won 2-1 with Peace Ayirwoth scoring twice whilst Agnes Nabukenya early first half strike turned into a mere consolation for Kawempe Muslim SS.
The team also received their kits from the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) and is expected to fly out of Uganda this Sunday 5th January 2025 via Entebbe International Airport.
Boni Consilli Girls Vocational team will represent Uganda in this U-17 tournament that kicks off on 7th January 2025 at Azam sports complex in Dar-es-Salaam city, Tanzania.
Hosts Tanzania have two clubs; JKT Queens and TDS Girls Academy. Kenya has Kenya Academy of Sports, Aigle Noir FC (Burundi), Bahir Dar Kenema FC (Ethiopia), City Lights Football Academy (South Sudan) and Hilaad FC is from Somalia.
About the GIFT event:
The GIFT championship is a pioneering pilot initiative to promote the development of women’s football across Africa.
The tournament provides a platform to showcase young female footballers, build player capacity and promote women’s football at regional and continental levels.
The competition is part of CAF’s strategy to promote gender equality and empower the next generation of female footballers.
CAF has set out to increase participation of girls in football across the continent, encourage MAs and clubs to invest in girls’ football clubs, leagues and Under-17 women’s national teams, and provide a pathway for girls to transition from schools football to competitive football structures.
In addition, there will be a CAF D-License coaching course and a workshop for media representatives to be held on the sidelines of the tournament, with the aim of promoting best practices in communications and media engagement.
Alongside the competition, there will be community events such as a girls’ football festival, sports clinics, and health awareness campaigns conducted in partnership with UEFA.
These initiatives aim to leave a lasting legacy for local communities in Tanzania.
