Brentford v Fulham prediction

Brentford head their final home game of the season on the penultimate round of Premier League matches this weekend in pole position to secure what looks likely to be the eighth and final European spot.

All eyes for both teams in this fixture will be on the FA Cup final on Saturday, with each side knowing that a victory for Manchester City would mean an eighth place finish in the league would secure Conference League football.

However should Crystal Palace lift the trophy, they would secure themselves a spot in next season’s Europa League and would leave eighth place Europeless.

Heading into this weekend, Thomas Frank’s side currently occupy that eighth place, seven points shy of Nottingham Forest above them but with only four points separating them and Fulham in 11th.

Only goal difference separates the Bees from Brighton just below them, but form is very much on their side having won all of their last four matches, with their 1-0 at Ipswich last Saturday afternoon taking their unbeaten run to six games.

Only a fortnight ago, the all important eighth spot was in the possession of Fulham but back to back defeats in their last two outings has seen the Cottagers relinquish that spot and drop down to 11th, now four points off the pace and making Sunday’s bout a must win game.

Marco Silva’s side’s surprise 3-1 defeat at home against Everton last weekend means nothing less than a victory will do for Fulham’s aspirations of a first European adventure in 14 years, and will need to put their current run of four defeats in five away games behind them.

Both teams’ form as well as it being Brentford’s final home game of the season makes a home win seem likely, but derby day can bring around some shock results – though I think a 3-1 home win could be in store on Sunday.

Brentford to win, both teams to score, Bryan Mbeumo and Yoan Wissa both to score – 10/1 with bet365

Brentford have won their last four matches while Fulham make the short trip across west London having lost four of their last five matches away from home.

Only three teams have scored more goals from their home games than the Bees this season, however only three teams have also conceded more in front of their home fans.

Mbeumo and Wissa have 37 goals between them leading the line for Brentford this season, the former having bagged two in his last two at the Gtech Community Stadium and the latter scoring four in his last five Premier League games.
