Brentford v West Ham preview

Brentford are in the midst of an inconsistent start to the new campaign, having won four and lost three of their seven matches in all competitions, though will be looking to put a win on the board in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon after defeats in their last two in the league.

Thomas Frank’s side will be looking forward to returning back to their home stadium, where they have a 100% record this season, following suffering back to back defeats in recent weeks in the league, albeit both coming in away games against Manchester City and Tottenham.

The west London side currently sit 12th in the table with six points from their five games, though their three defeats have all come against teams who finished last season in the top five, and will see Saturday as a chance to extend their strong home run.

West Ham make the trip across London on Saturday afternoon in desperate need of a positive result after Wednesday night’s 5-1 thrashing by Liverpool in the Carabao Cup left them three defeats in their last four matches, drawing the other.

Similarly to their opponents this weekend though, the four teams that the Hammers have suffered defeats against in their seven matches so far have all come against teams who finished in last season’s top six.

The east London side will see their next two league matches, against Brentford and Ipswich, as a massive opportunity to put points on the board and secure just their second league win of the season, and their first since the second weekend of the campaign.

The Irons head into the weekend 14th in the table with four points to their name, just two points behind Brentford and three points off the top 10, which they will be looking to break into with a strong performance and result on Saturday.

Although West Ham won the most recent meeting between the two clubs 4-2 in February earlier this year, the Bees won the previous five league meetings and haven’t suffered a home defeat in the league to the Hammers in the last 71 years.

Brentford v West Ham betting tips

A tough match to call with both sides in need of a win after unfavourable results in recent weeks, goals can be expected after 11 were scored across both league games in last season’s meetings.

BetMGM are pricing over 3.5 goals, both teams to score and Bryan Mbeumo, now firmly Brentford’s main man after Ivan Toney’s departure and Yoan Wissa’s injury, to have 2+ shots on target at 13/2, which looks a sensible punt.
