Brighton v Aston Villa prediction
Brighton will be looking to get back to winning ways on Wednesday night after their seven game unbeaten run, consisting of six wins, came to an end on Saturday evening after they were dumped out of the FA Cup on penalties by Nottingham Forest at the quarter final stage.
Fabian Hurzeler’s side will be back in front of their home fans on Wednesday as they return to Premier League duty looking to continue their push for European football.
The Seagulls head into the midweek round of action sat seventh in the table just a point behind Manchester City in fifth place, which is all but guaranteed to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
The Sussex coast side are in by far the best form of the sides in the battle for the top five spots, with four wins and a draw from their last five league games, and have won their last three league games at the Amex.
Aston Villa make the trip to the south coast on Wednesday having also been in FA Cup quarter final action over the weekend, though Unai Emery’s side had a much more enjoyable time of it, securing a 3-0 win at Championship side Preston.
The Villans have now won each of their last five matches, and just one defeat in their last five Premier League games them only three points behind the Champions League places heading into this week.
The West Midlands side head to Brighton having won their last three matches away from home, and have won five of their last seven games against the Seagulls, losing just one of their last eight, though that defeat did come on their most recent trip to the Amex.
Aston Villa will be in confident mood heading into Wednesday’s bout with five wins on the spin, while Brighton are now winless in their last two after their six match winning streak came to an end before the international break.
The visitors’ boost in confidence having just booked their place in the semi finals of the FA Cup should carry them through, with the quality of their squad leading me to predict a 2-1 away win for the Villans.
