Bristol City v Leeds predictions
The midweek round of Championship matches saw Leeds extend their current unbeaten run to six matches; their 2-1 home win over Watford saw them draw level on points with second placed Burnley as they seek promotion back to the Premier League at the second time of asking.
Daniel Farke’s side make the trip to the West Country on having won four of their last six matches but are without a win in either of their last two games on the road, a run they will be looking to put to an end on Saturday lunchtime.
The Yorkshire side head into the weekend only three points behind the league leaders Sunderland in a promotion race that looks set to be a thrilling one with several teams in with a realistic shout of playing top flight football next season.
Bristol City head into the weekend on a six-match unbeaten run of their own although only two of those matches have resulted in wins, with four of the last five ending in draws.
Robins boss Liam Manning is currently taking an absence of leave, leaving assistant manager Chris Hogg in charge of the side for the foreseeable future, and with four points from his opening two games so far he’ll feel he has the squad in a good place for this weekend’s big test.
Bristol City are yet to be beaten at home in the league this season, though this weekend’s tie will no doubt be their toughest assignment of the season so far, against a team they have a pretty miserable recent record against.
Leeds have won eight of their last nine games against the side from the south-west, including each of their last six, and have kept clean sheets in three of their last four visits to Ashton Gate.
Farke also has a strong previous record against Bristol City, unbeaten across all eight of the games he’s managed against them, winning six of those, including all of the last five.
The statistics suggest that Leeds, who ended Sheffield United’s unbeaten streak last weekend, will also put an end to Bristol City’s in one of Saturday’s lunchtime kick offs, a 2-0 away win looking likely.
Bristol City v Leeds betting tips
Only two players have made more assists than Leeds’ Italian winger in the Championship this season, who has been the club’s standout player in this opening quarter of the campaign.
Bristol City’s main problem over the last few seasons has been their lack of end product in front of goal, and with no goalkeeper having kept more clean sheets than Illan Meslier this season, it doesn’t bode too well for the Robins’ attack on Saturday.
Leeds’ and Farke’s record against the West Country outfit is very strong in recent years, and it would be a surprise if the away side don’t return back to Yorkshire with all three points.
Wilfried Gnonto to score or assist – 11/8 at Sky Bet
