British School of Kampala maintains tender humanity touch through community charity run

Muyenga, a suburb of Kampala city is a leafy, quiet, clean, peaceful and tranquil confine.

This is the deserved home of British School of Kampala (BSK), an institution that offers an internationally recognized curriculum for primary and secondary students under the motto “Discovering and Understanding”.

On the morning of Saturday, 16th November 2024, Muyenga was coloured a sea of red during the 8th edition of the British School of Kampala Community run.

This charity run was intended to raise funds for the Missionaries of the Poor group, that looks after impoverished children and adults.

Therefore, there was every valid reason to shed off a sweat in a bid to raise money for the Missionaries of the poor who run three different outlets in Kisenyi, Busega and Masaka.

As early as 6 am, runners of all ages thronged the BSK facility in Muyenga for the mandatory limbering session to prepare the bodies for this run that had the shortest 1.7KM (blue route), 4.7 KM (Red route) and the longest being 8.5 KM (black route).

By 7:20 AM, the first group of runners in the 8.5KM was officially flagged by the vice chancellor of the Victoria University Uganda Dr. Lawrence Coreta Muganga who was the chief runner and guest.

The other runners in the rest of the categories were flagged off by Winnie Bagonza, the BSK Director.

“We are humbled for the overwhelming response of parents, learners, the community in Buziga and sponsors who have made this event very successful. Like for the other editions of the run, proceeds from this will be channelled towards the missionaries of the poor” Bagonza remarked moments after the run.

Primary and secondary students from BSK schools, parents, friends and well-wishers took part in this run.

Collins Agaba, also the head prefect of the secondary section was the winner of the black route (8.7 KM).

Bashir Omari came second and Edgar Ssali finished third.

Ashley Alvin was victorious in the red route (4.7 KM) with a one Viane and Dorin taking home silver and bronze respectively.

For the Blue route (1.7 KM), Imran Kalema took gold, David Owere with silver and Ethan Kiggundu (bronze).

One of the youngest participants, six-year-old Eldon Sheric was excited to take part in the run.

“I am happy to have run the entire 1.7KM for the right cause of helping the differently abled people. I thank my parents for accompanying me” Eldon remarked.

The parents – staff association was ably represented by Brian Sseruyigo (president) and Patience Arinda (vice president) who lauded the all the students, parents of BSK, staff, organizations and companies that sponsored the run.

“We are humbled by the overwhelming support from the students, parents, staff and all sponsors for their effort to contribute to the well-being of others in the community. The target set of Ug.Shs 20,000,000 was achieved and now urge the collection of items as clothes, shoes, bags and any other items that will be donated to the differently abled persons” Arinda noted.
