‘Brittany won’t like that’ – Eagles diehards accused of going ‘too far’ with Patrick Mahomes-Kermit the Frog stunt that leaves NFL fans divided

The Philadelphia Eagles humbled Patrick Mahomes and the three-peat chasing Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

While they entered the Superdome bidding to make history with a third-straight title on Sunday night, the Chiefs are now left licking their wounds after a bruising defeat.

Philly simply dominated on the night, dethroning Kansas City with a 40-22 win – and even that scoreline flattered the losing team.

Most of their scores came when the game was finished as a contest, while quarterback Mahomes was sacked six times on a night that he also threw two interceptions.

Naturally, the Eagles’ Super Bowl win sent the city of Philadelphia wild, with many fans partying into the night as they celebrated a second Lombardi Trophy.

Some set off fireworks, while others spilled into the streets to climb on top of cars and topple traffic signals close to Broad Street.

Elsewhere, a small section of fans decided that Mahomes hadn’t been humbled enough on the field, and took aim at him as they partied.

Footage shared on social media shows a group of people burning a Kermit the Frog doll, while chanting ‘F*** the Chiefs’.

Mahomes has long drawn playful comparisons to the Muppets character for his voice, and the quarterback has previously revealed his own coach, Andy Reid, even does an impression of him.

“He doesn’t do it in front of a lot of people, thankfully,’’ Mahomes once said.

While there’s nothing wrong with a bit of harmless fun, burning a Kermit doll on the streets is far from a pretty sight, and the incident split opinion amongst other NFL fans.

“Celebrations going a bit too far,” one person wrote on X.

“What did Patrick Mahomes do to even deserve this? Eagles fans, grow up,” another said.

“It was a football game for crying out loud,” a third wrote.

A number of fans also suggested Mahomes’ wife Brittany ‘ain’t going to like that.’

Others, though, didn’t believe there was a major issue with the video, suggesting it was a ‘good laugh’ and ‘entertaining’.

Eagles fans are not the first to be accused of taking things too far with Kermit comparisons – as some pointed out.

Last month, Brittany Mahomes hit back at Buffalo Bills fans who hung a green doll wearing a No. 15 jersey and a brown wig from a pole ahead of a game.

The stunt drew a negative response at the time, and was referenced by Brittany after Kansas City won the AFC Championship in January.

The Chiefs beat the Bills 32-29 in a tight game to advance to the Super Bowl that night.

“Do we remember this Buffalo? Absolutely disgusting,” Brittany posted on Instagram, along with the photo.

“So as you go home tonight, I pray we become better people,” she posted on Instagram, along with a photo.

That plea, however, appears to have been missed by at least a few fans in Philly last night.
