Talk about Brock Lesnar’s WWE return is never far away, but fans have been left talking about The Beast’s wife after a brand-new photo the two emerged.
Lesnar has been away from the wrestling ring for the better part of 18 months, last featuring in a brutal battle against Cody Rhodes at the 2023 instalment of SummerSlam.
The multi-time wrestling champion hasn’t been since that show-down – the last in a series of high-profile bouts with the American Nightmare but talk of a comeback rarely seems to go away.
Initially WWE had moved to distance themselves from the former UFC fighter – removing him from the intro of their programming after his name surfaced in a Wall Street Journal report into sexual assault and trafficking allegations levied at Vince McMahon, allegations McMahon has vowed to ‘vigorously defend’.
McMahon has, of course, long since severed ties with the company he transformed into a global superpower, departing the Board of TKO – WWE’s parent company at the start of 2024, and having no say whatsoever in the day-to-day running of the entity or its on-screen content.
Lesnar, meanwhile, seems to still have a future in the business after Head of Creative and Chief Content Officer Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque indicated that any potential comeback was in the star’s hands, and that WWE remained open to doing business.
As such, there is always chatter about who might battle Lesnar in any future fights. That is, at least, until a new photo of the grappler with his wife, Rena, surfaced on social media, turning attention squarely on her.
As Sable, Rena found her own fame in WWE’s Attitude Era and, decades on, arguably remains one of the most high-profile stars in the company’s business.
Debuting alongside then husband Marc Mero for a match against Triple H, Sable first featured in WWE in 1996, but soon broke out on her own and became women’s world champion, wowing fans not only with a glamorous look and her work inside the ring.
More than 25 years after her wrestling peak, she’s been snapped alongside husband Brock, in a post shared by singer Michelle Wright.
In thanking her audience after a show in Saskatchewan, Canada, Wright wrote: “Nice to have Brock Lesnar (American professional wrestler) & his lovely wife Rena (known as Sable, a professional wrestler) at the show.
“Darn it, I missed out on the picture but they sure are good folks.”
The photo understandably triggered nostalgia among wrestling fans online, one posting: “She looks damn near unrecognizable in this photo. If you told me this was someone else, I would have believed it. She still looks great…”
Another added: “She’s STILL got it going on,” while a further fan quipped: “The guy next to her looks like he could be a damn good wrestler imo.”
After a notable WrestleMania match in 1998, Sable and Mero parted on screen but continued to feud, later teaming with Edge against him and Jacqueline at that year’s SummerSlam.
Months later at Survivor Series she defeated Jaqueline to win the WWE Women’s title, eventually losing it to Debra, the ex-wife of Stone Cold Steve Austin in May 1999.
She departed WWE soon after amid a legal battle against the company, but returned in 2003 for a second stay of just over a year.
