Buweekula Ssaza edge Kyaddondo to take bronze | 2024 Buganda Masaza Cup

2024 Buganda Masaza Cup (Third place-play-off):

  • Kyaddondo 1-3 Buweekula

Buweekula Ssaza secured the bronze at the 2024 Buganda Masaza Cup football tournament.

This was after a well-deserved 3-1 win over Kyaddondo in the third-place play-off match at Mandela National Stadium on Saturday, 2nd November 2024.

Lethal forward Shafik Nyanzi struck a hat-trick in the morning duel, a curtain raiser before the grand finale between Buddu and Kyaggwe.

Second half substitute Datham Mubiru was on target for Kyaddondo to attain their consolation.

Before a mammoth crowd in the stands, Buweekula set their mission clear with a dominant performance as soon as kick-off.

Shafik Nyanzi celebrates for Buweekula Ssaza

Nyanzi’s opener came on the 12th minute after great inter-play involving impressive midfielder Amour Munogera.

Seven minutes later, Nyanzi finished off to double Buweekula’s lead and establish a 2-0 lead by the mandatory half time recess.

The third goal was a well struck penalty in the 70th minute to cap the icing on the already baked cake.

Datham Mubiru, a second half substitute for Kyaddondo powerfully headed home an inviting cross from the left for their only goal with 17 minutes to play.

Buweekula finished third place to take home bronze and a cash prize of Ug.Shs 7,000,000 with Kyaddondo  settling for Ug.Shs 5,000,000.

The final between Buddu and Kyaggwe will climax the championship that was rekindled in 2004.

Gomba Ssaza is the record champion with five titles to their name-tag.
