Cardiff have sacked manager Erol Bulut after going winless in their first six league games of the season.

The Bluebirds have picked up just one point this campaign and sit rock bottom of the Championship.

Now, following their 2-0 loss at home to Leeds on Saturday, Cardiff have relieved Bulut of his duties.

Their statement read: “Cardiff City Football Club can confirm first team manager Erol Bulut has been relieved of his duties and will leave the club with immediate effect.

“The Board of Directors wish to thank Erol for all of his hard work and wish him well for the future.

“First Team Coach Nikolaos Karydas will also depart and leaves with the Club’s best wishes. Further backroom staff confirmation will follow in due course.

“Omer Riza will take charge of the First Team on an interim basis, while the Club look to recruit a new permanent First Team Manager.”

Bulut is the third Championship managerial casualty already this season.

Preston went first, with Ryan Lowe leaving the club after just one match.

Stoke followed, with the Potters and Steven Schumacher parting ways.

Paul Heckingbottom and Narcis Pelach have taken the respective positions.

Bulut took over at Cardiff in June 2023, taking over after the club narrowly swerved relegation and finished fourth from bottom in the Championship.

He improved the Bluebirds in his first season, leading them to finish 12th.

As a result, the 49-year-old was awarded a new two-year deal, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2026.

However, just three months after penning that contract, Bulut has been given his marching orders.

Assessing what turned out to be his final game in charge in South Wales, Bulut said in his post-match: “When you get the ball, you have to come forward with it, but we made too many passing mistakes and we didn’t many enough runs in-behind. When all these are not how you need them, it’s difficult.

“When I see the first six games, whether it’s Sunderland, Middlesbrough or Burnley, what we tried to play, we had the chances, but we didn’t score. The results could be much different.

“Against Sunderland and Middlesbrough, we had many chances and conceded from a set-piece. In Derby, we conceded a goal from nothing after we could have scored three goals.”

The club’s only point came against fierce rivals Swansea last month in their 1-1 draw.

The Bluebirds are already on the lookout for a successor, according to Wales Online.
