Celta Vigo vs Barcelona predictions

Broadly speaking, Barcelona will be delighted with the way they have started the season.

This was earmarked as a transition year after Hansi Flick replaced Xavi Hernandez in the dugout over the summer, but Barcelona have adapted impressively quickly to their new manager’s demands.

At this stage last term, the Blaugrana were third in La Liga. As the competition gets set to resume after the November international break in 2024. Barca are top.

The highlight, of course, was a stunning 4-0 triumph over Real Madrid at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu last month.

They are also going strong in the Champions League. A 2-1 defeat by Monaco on matchday one represented a disappointing start, but Barcelona bounced back by emerging victorious from subsequent meetings with Young Boys (5-0), Bayern Munich (4-1) and Red Star Belgrade (5-2). Barca are sixth in the standings and no team has scored as many goals.

Yet Barcelona broke off for the international break in the worst way possible. A 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad last time out allowed Madrid to move within six points of the summit. The defending champions have played one game fewer than their eternal rivals.

Barcelona were unfortunate to have a ‘goal’ controversially chalked off by VAR, but they did not play well against Real Sociedad. They lost their composure after conceding the opener and were unable to wrestle back control of the match.

“The responsibility for the defeat is ours,” Flick admitted. “We could and should have played much better. We didn’t hold possession of the ball the way we wanted, and we suffered.”

It is vital that Barcelona get back on track this weekend. Madrid have been unconvincing so far in 2024/25, but if Carlo Ancelotti can find the right balance up front, the Blancos are capable of reeling Flick’s team in.

There are five games remaining for Barca before the winter break. A trip to Real Betis and a home match against Atletico Madrid leap out, but Flick must ensure his players do not take anything for granted in clashes with the likes of Celta Vigo, Leganes and Las Palmas.

Celta Vigo vs Barcelona betting tips

Celta Vigo host Barcelona this weekend as La Liga returns after the November international break.

Barcelona to win

A strong end to last season under Claudio Giraldez, who replaced Rafa Benitez as manager in the middle of March, saw Celta Vigo pull clear of the relegation zone and end up in 13th place.

They have carried that momentum into the current campaign and occupy 11th spot in the standings heading into the weekend.

Celta have been strong at home up to now, taking 13 of their 17 points in front of their own fans. Only five teams in the division have a better record on familiar turf.

Barcelona should not expect this to be a straightforward assignment, then, but we still expect the league leaders to come out on top.

Flick’s team have been mostly excellent this term and they will be keen to bounce back from that blip against Real Sociedad the weekend before last.

Barcelona to win the second half

After the disruption of the international break, it may take a while for Barcelona to rediscover their rhythm on Saturday.

Celta Vigo are an attacking team under Giraldez, whose side have scored 20 goals up to now. Only Barcelona, Real Madrid and Villarreal have managed more.

Celta will look to play on the front foot as much as that is possible against Barcelona. Fewer of their players have been away on international duty, so they could get out of the blocks quicker.

As time goes on, however, Barcelona’s superior quality is likely to be decisive.

It is worth noting, too, that Barca are yet to lose a second half away from home this term, while they have the best overall record in La Liga from minutes 46 to 90.

Robert Lewandowski to score any time

Robert Lewandowski pulled out of the Poland squad for the conclusion of the Nations League group phase, citing a lower back issue.

However, Barcelona stated that the injury would only keep him out for 10 days, paving the way for Lewandowski to start against Celta Vigo.

The former Bayern Munich frontman has had a sensational first few months of the season, scoring 19 goals in his first 17 appearances in all competitions.

That haul includes 14 strikes in La Liga, six more than Vinicius Junior who ranks second in the scoring charts.

Expect Lewandowski to pick up where he left off this weekend.
