Celtic vs Club Brugge predictions
The Champions League is the pinnacle of European club football, but it has also been a source of regular disappointment for Celtic in recent years.
You have to go back to the 2012/13 season to find the last time the Hoops advanced to the knockout phase of this competition.
Since then they have finished fourth in their group out of five attempts, and third in the other campaign. On a further six occasions they were eliminated in the qualifying rounds.
Of course, the old group stage is no more. Thirty-six teams take part in the tournament proper these days. After each side has played eight games, the top eight will go directly through to the round of 16 and those ranked between ninth and 24th will contest the knockout stage play-offs.
In a departure from their usual predicament in Europe’s premier competition, Celtic are very much in contention at the midway point of the league phase.
Brendan Rodgers’ team thrashed Slovan Bratislava 5-1 on matchday one, before suffering a 7-1 shellacking at the hands of Borussia Dortmund two weeks later.
No matter. Celtic responded with a gutsy display in a 0-0 draw with free-scoring Atalanta away from home, before beating RB Leipzig 3-1 at Celtic Park earlier this month.
A return of seven points from a possible 12 is very respectable indeed. Celtic head into Wednesday’s tussle with Club Brugge in 15th place in the standings, behind the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal, Manchester City and Juventus on goal difference alone.
There is still work to do. Celtic have just a three-point buffer above Paris Saint-Germain in 25th, the highest elimination spot. But the upcoming fixture list is not as daunting as it might have been, with Dinamo Zagreb, Young Boys and Aston Villa set to provide the opposition in December and January.
Celtic cannot allow complacency to creep in. The likes of Dinamo, Young Boys and Villa will consider a clash with Celtic to be winnable too.
Yet it is undeniable that the Bhoys are in a strong position after four rounds of fixtures. With the Parkhead crowd behind them on Wednesday, Celtic will believe they can get the job done once more.
Celtic vs Club Brugge betting tips
Club Brugge head to Glasgow to take on Celtic on matchday five of the Champions League.
Celtic to win
Club Brugge have six points to their name so far, which means a win on Wednesday would see them leapfrog Celtic in the table.
The Belgian outfit were beaten pretty comfortably by Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan, but they edged out both Sturm Graz and Aston Villa by a goal to nil to keep their hopes of progression alive.
Free Bet Offers
With Juventus and Manchester City their scheduled opponents on matchday seven and eight respectively, Club Brugge will have earmarked this as a must-not-lose encounter.
Unfortunately, we reckon they will come unstuck against Celtic Park, which is a tough place for any team to go on a European night.
Rodgers’ men can make it seven consecutive wins in all competitions this midweek.

Both teams to score
Celtic successfully shut Atalanta out in that aforementioned goalless draw, but it should be pointed out that the Italian outfit did everything but score that night.
Celtic have conceded in each of their other three Champions League matches, while only six sides have given up more goals overall.
That will give Club Brugge a degree of confidence, as will the seven goals they sent past Saint-Truiden in the Belgian Pro League on Saturday.
Brugge have been much less productive in the Champions League, having made the net bulge just once up to now.
But due to the importance of this match, they should take a few more risks in Glasgow. Goals at both ends looks like a smart selection.
Back both teams to score at 4/7 with Betfred
Kyogo Furuhashi to score any time
Kyogo Furuhashi is often Celtic’s primary goal threat and that is likely to be the case when they take on Club Brugge.
Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn have actually scored more goals than Kyogo in the first few months of 2024/25, but there is no doubt about the latter’s overall importance to the cause.
The 29-year-old was on target at the weekend, helping the Hoops to a 4-1 victory over Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.
Kyogo is a man for the big occasion: he has got his name on the scoresheet against Rangers and Aberdeen, Celtic’s two title rivals, this season.
Club Brugge will have to keep a close eye on the Japan international when they visit Celtic Park this week.
Tip Kyogo Furuhashi to score any time at 13/8 with Betfred
