The interesting Chaapa League 2025 is back, bigger and better, with Uganda Breweries under Guinness as the main sponsor.
The league officially kicks off this Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the NEC grounds in Bugolobi, Kampala city.
Throughout the season, there will be 19 thrilling outings in Kampala before culminating in a grand finale at Mbarara High School, Western Uganda in October.
Kennedy Gumisiriza, the Chaapa League chairperson hints on the decision to conclude the season at Mbarara High School is deeply sentimental.
“We want this to be a proper homecoming for all alumni, a chance for them to return to their beloved school and witness the remarkable transformations, both inside and outside,” Gumisiriza who was flanked by other members of the executive committee remarked.
Format of play:
This year’s competition will follow a league format, with the top eight teams advancing to the quarterfinals. From there, the battle intensifies into the semifinals and, ultimately, the finals.
Among the standout teams expected to make a strong impression are the Bulls, Convicts, and Rugabo City.
These teams have consistently dominated the league, and fans are eager to see what they bring to the pitch this season.
Gumisiriza states that the Guinness brand has continued to enhance the football experience for both fans and school alumni for the last two years now.
“Our beer sponsor Guinness has not only fueled the competitive spirit on the pitch but also elevated match day experiences with engaging activations, fan interactions, and community-driven initiatives. This partnership is a perfect match, given Guinness’ strong ties to football plus it has solidified the league’s reputation as a premier football event,” he adds.
Guinness is joined by other partners as Cavendish University, Khunda cleaning services and Silverback entertainment among others.
Corporate Social Responsibility:
While football remains the main attraction every Sunday at NEC grounds, the Chaapa League is also committed to making a difference beyond the game.
The league has several Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives planned for the season, including; Tree planting along the Mbarara Highway, free medical testing, a blood donation drive and a dedicated medical camp day.
Last year, the league demonstrated its community spirit by cleaning the streets of Bugolobi, where matches are held weekly.
With a thrilling season ahead and a strong commitment to both sport and social impact, Chaapa League 2025 promises to be a spectacle for football fans and the community.
Rwizi won the 2024 edition but did not register for this year’s championship.
