This week’s Champions League quarter final first legs (all 8pm kick offs):

  • Arsenal v Real Madrid (Tue)
  • Bayern Munich v Inter Milan (Tue)
  • Barcelona v Borussia Dortmund (Wed)
  • PSG v Aston Villa (Wed)

The quarter finals of the Champions League get underway later tonight with Arsenal hosting defending champions Real Madrid at the Emirates Stadium, the home side looking to reach their first semi final in this competition in 16 years.

Real Madrid have won six of the last 11 editions of the Champions League and tonight will see them return to the city in which they were crowned champions of Europe for a 15th time last year, though they haven’t had it so easy this season.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are second in the league, four points off the league leaders and finished way down in 11th in the league phase of the Champions League and needed a penalty shoot out to get past Atletico Madrid in the last round.

The other tie tonight sees the Bundesliga leaders take on the Serie A leaders as Bayern Munich welcome Inter Milan to the Allianz Arena, the home side six points clear at the top of their league and bidding for a seventh European title and their first since 2020.

Inter Milan have a three point lead at the top of the Italian league and fancy themselves as dark horses for the Champions League this season having come so close two years ago when they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by the all-conquering treble winning Manchester City side.

Wednesday night sees Aston Villa look to continue their fantastic form in recent weeks and extend their dream European journey as they travel to the Parc des Princes to take on a PSG side who were crowned Ligue 1 champions over the weekend with an unassailable 22-point lead.

The French side are unbeaten throughout their entire league campaign and are still fresh off having knocked the runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool out of the Champions League at Anfield in the last round, overturning a first leg deficit after defeat at home.

In Spain, La Liga leaders Barcelona take on last season’s runners up Borussia Dortmund in the fourth and final last eight encounter. The Catalan side opened up a four point gap at the top of the league over the weekend and finished second in the league phase of the Champions League before easing past Benfica in the last 16.

Borussia Dortmund are down in eighth place in the Bundesliga table following the weekend’s round of matches, last season’s beaten Champions League finalists have reached the last eight of this season’s edition despite finishing the league phase in 10th place, but have successfully navigated themselves through to the quarter finals after wins over Sporting Lisbon and Lille.
