Boehly has secured a near-£40million acquisition through his investment firm Cain International.

Trent Rockets, who play at the famous Trent Bridge, are said to have been valued at around £80million in an auction.

Boehly’s Cain International are working alongside private equity firm Ares Management and have purchased a 49 per cent stake.

Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club will keep the controlling 51 per cent and the two parties will now move into a period of exclusivity.

Trent Rockets’ men’s team won The Hundred in 2022, with their women’s side finishing as runners-up in the same year.

The news marks a seventh investment of a Hundred franchise and is another case of American interest within cricket.

Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney held talks last year regarding a stake in Welsh Fire, as per the BBC.

It was also reported that the England and Wales Cricket Board [ECB] have been keen for the Hollywood actors to attend a match.

However, Glamorgan County Cricket Club sold a 49 per cent stake to Indian-American business Sanjay Govil got £40million.

Boehly, whose net worth stands at $8.5billion as estimated by Forbes, has a 20 per cent stake in MLB giants the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He is also a part-owner of women’s basketball side Los Angeles Sparks alongside NBA legend Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson.

The 51-year-old led a consortium to purchase Premier League giants Chelsea in a £4.25billion takeover in 2022.

Boehly then acquired a majority stake in Ligue 1 side Strasbourg via his BlueCo consortium in a reported deal worth £65million.

Chelsea currently have Djordje Petrovic and Andrey Santos on loan at the French club this season.
