Club Bruges vs Aston Villa predictions
Aston Villa fans could not have dreamed of a better start to the club’s first Champions League campaign since 1982/83.
Victories over Young Boys, Bayern Munich and Bologna mean Villa are top of the league phase after three rounds of games. Liverpool are the only other team with maximum points to their name so far.
There is now genuine belief at Villa Park that Unai Emery’s men can qualify directly for the round of 16 by finishing in the top eight of the table.
There are still some difficult games on the horizon for Villa, not least a home clash with Juventus later this month. But Emery’s side are ahead of schedule and no one will relish facing them going forward.
Villa have not had quite as much to cheer about in the Premier League of late, however. A 4-1 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur was only their second of the season, but Emery’s charges have won just one of their last five top-flight encounters and are now down to sixth in the standings.
As many predicted, there are a few signs that Villa are struggling to balance domestic and continental commitments.
It is not necessarily an issue of physical fatigue. Indeed, it could be more of a mental problem. After such highs as the 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich, it is hard to get yourself up for a run-of-the-mill Premier League game a few days later. Villa duly played out a dull goalless draw with Manchester United following that famous win against the German giants.
No members of the Villa fan base would be disappointed if Emery ultimately opted to dedicate most of his attention to Europe. There is no point investing so much effort into qualifying for the Champions League, only to not give it a proper go when you are there.
The concern for Villa is that it is difficult to turn your form on and off like a tap, so their recent underwhelming Premier League displays could have a knock-on effect in Europe. Emery and his players will be out to show that is not the case when they face Club Brugge on Wednesday.
Club Brugge vs Aston Villa betting tips
Can Aston Villa make it four wins from four in the Champions League when they face Club Brugge?
Aston Villa to win
Club Brugge will not get close to finishing in the top eight of the Champions League, but they will hope to be in contention for the knockout stage play-offs (for which a finish between ninth and 24th is required).
Brugge were beaten 3-0 by Borussia Dortmund on matchday one, after which they edged out Sturm Graz 1-0. In their last European outing, they went down 3-1 to AC Milan.
Free Bet Offers
With Juventus and Manchester City set to provide the opposition on matchdays seven and eight, Brugge could do with getting some more points on the board sooner rather than later.
In our estimation, they are unlikely to get any against Aston Villa in one of Wednesday’s early kick-offs.
Emery’s side can maintain their 100 percent record in the Champions League by emerging triumphant at the Jan Breydel Stadium.

Aston Villa clean sheet
Although they are one of the strongest sides in Belgium, Club Brugge are not the most free-scoring team around.
Despite being second in the standings at the time of writing, they are the lowest scorers in the top four of the Belgian Pro League.
In the Champions League, meanwhile, only six teams have made the net bulge less often than Brugge, who have two goals to their name.
After watching his team concede four goals to Tottenham at the weekend, Emery will be keen to get back to basics against Brugge.
Expect a measured, defensively strong performance from Aston Villa in this one.
Tip Aston Villa to keep a clean sheet at 9/4 with bet365
Morgan Rogers to score any time
Morgan Rogers opened the scoring for Aston Villa against Tottenham. He has now scored in his last three away games in the Premier League, which bodes well for this trip to Belgium.
Rogers has emerged as a key player for Villa this season. He already was to an extent last term, but the former Middlesbrough man has already made more starts in 2024/25 than he did in 2023/24, when he moved to Villa in January.
The attacking midfielder gets into good scoring positions, while he is a cool finisher in front of goal.
It was reported last week that Rogers is in talks with the club over a contract extension, which will be music to the ears of Villa supporters.
Do not be surprised if Rogers gets his name on the scoresheet again on Wednesday.
