Coco Gauff’s NBA admiration is well known.

And while the American No. 1 has her sights set on the season-ending WTA Finals in November, she found time to praise one of The Association’s all-time greats.

The American is trying to finish the year on a high after a change in her coaching team brought on a run of form that delivered an end to a title drought stretching back to January when she won the China Open in October.

Vince Carter was enshrined into the Hall of Fame in October to celebrate a historic 22-year career.

His daughter Kai took to Instagram this week, paying tribute to Carter’s impact on and off the court.

“Proud is an understatement. Watching my dad get inducted into the Naismith NBA Hall of Fame is a moment that my siblings and I will treasure forever,” she wrote.

“It’s not just about the incredible career and the countless hours of hard work and dedication, but about the legacy of passion, perseverance, and love for the game that he’s passed down to us.

“Being there to witness this moment was a blessing beyond words. Thank you for showing us what it means to dream big and chase greatness. I love you, Hall of Famer!”

“love this!” Gauff wrote in response to Kai’s post along with two red hearts.

Carter was named Rookie of the Year in 1999 and won the Dunk Contest a year later.

He played for eight teams and appeared in eight All-Star games – his No. 15 jersey will be retired by the Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets.

His mom Michelle, wife Sondi, seven-year-old son Vince Jr., and four-year-old daughter Vale were sat with 19-year-old Kai.

Carter wiped back the tears throughout his passionate speech as he thanked his former colleagues, fans, and family.

“I acknowledge you all tonight and say thank you for your cheers and your boos. It’s been a motivating force, it helped me make it to 22 years,” he said.

“I never took it personally, I know how we are as fans, we love our teams, but it’s been an honour to fly in arenas for your entertainment.”

Carter shared the positive mantra that helped him compete at elite level for two decades.

“In life, we go through obstacles that are filled with ups and downs, goods and bads and everything in between,” he said.

“It seems like a gauntlet you’re going through, but we somehow figure it out — either on your own, from a coach, teammate, co-workers, boss or even through life experiences. It gets us to the finish line.

“When we look back at the process, we have a greater appreciation for what we’ve experienced.

“Take those experiences and give them to the next generation. Drop those gems.

“Because remember, it was done for us. We have to keep the cycle going.”
