Conor McGregor faces a new civil lawsuit from a woman who accused him of sexually assaulting her in 2023.
The new lawsuit, which was filed on Tuesday, accuses the Irishman of sexually assaulting her in the bathroom of the Kasaya Center following Miami Heat‘s NBA Finals game against the Denver Nuggets on June 9, 2023.
It has come as a follow from the criminal sexual assault allegation which was filled against McGregor by the woman, who has been described as a 49-year-old who works on Wall Street.
At the time, an incident report was filed by City of Miami Police, but the Florida State Attorney’s Office elected to drop criminal charges against the UFC fighter.
McGregor’s attorney, Barbara Llanes, released a statement to ESPN after the civil lawsuit was filed.
It read: “After a thorough investigation at the time, the State’s Attorney concluded that there was no case to pursue.
“Almost two years and at least three lawyers later the plaintiff has a new false story. We are confident that this case too will be dismissed.”
McGregor has vehemently denied the allegations as he did two years ago when the criminal accusations were brought against his name.
It is expected that the lawsuit will proceed moving forward after being filed, in search of damages.
Those damages include compensation, medical costs and other financial penalties that the court deems with the case.
The woman in question has also levelled complaints towards staff and security at the Heat Game, who she has accused of negligence surrounding the situation.
Her attorney, Jim Dunn, equally released a statement after the lawsuit was filed.
It added: “My client has thought long and hard about the decision to pursue this civil case, and is fearful of the effect it may have on her job on Wall Street.
“Nonetheless, her main goal in filing this suit is to raise awareness and encourage others to report sexual assault.”
The woman’s lawsuit alleges that McGregor led her into a bathroom by grabbing her wrist before leading her into a stall.
It then accuses the 37-year-old of sexually assaulting her in a cubicle within the bathroom.
The accuser claimed she felt she had no choice but to file a civil lawsuit after criminal charges were dropped following the alleged incident.
Within the file, the lawsuit also mentions an incident where McGregor punched the Heats Mascot ‘Bernie’ on court in a viral stunt during the match.
Following that incident, it alleges he received preferential treatment by arena staff, which she has claimed saw them neglect the fact a ‘heightened risk of battery being carried out’ was present.
McGregor hasn’t fought in the UFC since before the alleged incident, with his last octagon outing coming in 2021 in a trilogy defeat to Dustin Poirier.
UFC president Dana White suggested McGregor’s target return date will come in Autumn 2025.
