Conor McGregor has suggested that his fighting career could be over in a bombshell update on his future.

McGregor hasn’t fought in his primary sport, MMA, since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.

He was scheduled to make his comeback at UFC 303 last June against Michael Chandler but withdrew from the main event clash after injuring his toe while sparring.

McGregor has since been actively promoting his numerous business endeavours outside the Octagon, including his various alcohol brands, music label and bare knuckle fighting league.

The 36-year-old from Dublin, Ireland is the co-owner of the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC).

And it was at BKFC 70 on Thursday night where McGregor shared a shocking update on his fighting career that would’ve worried any combat sports fans who expected him to make a comeback soon.

“I’ve got two fights on the [UFC] contract, I’m in negotiations,” he told the media at BKFC 70 Hollywood.

“Last week something happened to me. I went to The White House and my country is…my heart bleeds for my country right now. So there’s a lot of stuff going on back home.”

McGregor met with US President Donald Trump last week to make progress in his run to become the President of Ireland.

He then offered a six-word response which piqued the media’s interested as he reflected on his fighting career.

“I’m happy with what I’ve done,” McGregor added.

“There’s something else for me that’s in my gut right now and that’s kind of where I’m going.

“So we’ll see, greatness doesn’t rush. And right now Ireland is in my thoughts and that’s where I’m at.”

McGregor previously announced his plans to run for president on social media, expressing his dislike towards Ireland’s current political regime.

And it looks like the former two-division UFC champion is now favouring a run in the world of politics, rather than attempting to make a fighting return.

Earlier this month McGregor congratulated his UFC boss Dana White on making the cover of Forbes Magazine.

White turned McGregor into the sport’s biggest superstar of all time during the Irishman’s UFC run and even helped promote a crossover boxing event with Floyd Mayweather.

McGregor is said to have earned a fortune of over $200 million during his MMA career, and White poured doubts on his former stars’ long-awaited UFC comeback fight last month.

At the back end of 2024, White repeatedly told media members that McGregor would return around the summer of this year.

However, the 55-year-old offered no such hint when asked the same question at UFC Saudi Arabia in February.

“Conor? I’m not sure when Conor will be back,” he said.

One of McGregor’s rival and former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira believes fans need to forget about him making a return.

“To be honest, I don’t know why people are still talking about Conor McGregor,” he said.

“He’s done everything he wanted to do in the sport and now he chooses to live his life the way he’s living it.”

Nonetheless, McGregor seems to having a great time outside of his fighting career.

He was videoed sinking pints at his Black Forge inn pub in Dublin with YouTube group the Nelk Boys to mark the beginning of his St Patrick’s Day celebrations this month.

McGregor also joined forces with celebrity jeweler TraxNYC to hand out gold and silver worth $100,000 to locals in Dublin around the same time.

He is also signing new talent to his Irish-based record label Greenback Records at every chance, including Sweet Love, who he compared to The Spice Girls when announcing they had joined forces.
